Free Week 16 NFL Totals Predictions

Its week Sixteen of the 2009 NFL season and we pick and preview all of the week 16 matchups from an OVER/Under NFL betting perspective this season…

NFL Week 16 Betting Preview

The underdogs got the best of it last week as nine teams getting points covered the spread. Four teams; Detroit, Miami, Cincinnati, and St.Louis all lost but covered the points and five teams; Dallas, Cleveland, Atlanta, Carolina, and Oakland all won outright.

Two games; New England (-7) @ Buffalo and Green Bay@ Pittsburgh (-1) ended in a push. The home team struggled this week as six teams won outright, but only four won ATS.

The totals bet was split right down the middle as eight games stayed under and eight went over.

Here is a rundown of all this week’s games and the current lines as supplied by MySportsbook.com.

Friday, Dec. 25

San Diego Chargers at Tennessee Titans (-3)
Over/Under 47

San Diego has won nine straight games and right now is playing better than any other team in the league. While this may be a trap game, if they are getting points, I’m taking them. The Chargers and the OVER.

Sunday, Dec. 27

Buffalo Bills at Atlanta Falcons (-8.5)
Over/Under 42

Buffalo was pretty much able to shut down the Patriots last week as they still have one of the best pass defenses in the league. Atlanta does not have a running game without Michael Turner. The Bills and the UNDER.

Kansas City Chiefs at Cincinnati Bengals (-13.5)
Over/Under 40

After back to back losses on the road to Minnesota and San Diego, Cincinnati is back home and playing a team they should be able to physically dominate. The Bengals and the UNDER.

Oakland Raiders at Cleveland Browns (-2.5)
Over/Under 38.5

Oakland still has a chance to win seven games which would be one of their best efforts in a number of years. With Mike Holmgren in town, head coach Eric Mangini is most likely on his way out. The Raiders and the UNDER.

Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers (-14)
Over/Under 40.5

Despite the last second loss to the Steelers, Green Bay is still playing at a high level and Seattle is a dreadful 1-6 on the road which is a bad combination. The Packers and the OVER.

Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins (-2.5)
Over/Under 45

This is basically a playoff game as the loser is out and the winner keeps their chances alive. The big difference is Miami knows how to win big games, but the Texans do not. The Dolphins and the OVER.

Carolina Panthers at New York Giants (-7)
Over/Under 42.5

Both teams are coming off impressive wins, especially Carolina who played their best game of the year against Minnesota. Unfortunately for the Panthers, New York is still very much in the playoff chase and playing at home. The Giants and the OVER.

Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots (-7.5)
Over/Under 43.5

Jacksonville is facing elimination with another loss, but facing New England on the road in December will be even tougher than playing the Colts at home. The Patriots and the UNDER.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints (-14.5)
Over/Under 50

After last week’s letdown, New Orleans’ offense will look to feast on Tampa’s 25th ranked defense that is giving up close to 26 points a game. The Saints and the OVER.

Denver Broncos at Philadelphia Eagles (-7)
Over/Under 41.5

This will be an emotional return for former Eagle S Brian Dawkins so look for him to have an impact on the outcome of this game. The Broncos and the OVER.

Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5)
Over/Under 41

Baltimore has a chance to sweep the Steelers after losing to them three times last year. Ray Lewis and company have a long memory. The Ravens and the UNDER.

St. Louis Rams at Arizona Cardinals (-14)
Over/Under 43.5

Arizona will have little motivation in this game other than keeping everybody healthy for the playoffs. St. Louis probably will not win, but they will cover. The Rams and the UNDER.

Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers (-11.5)
Over/Under 41

While everyone agrees that Detroit is an awful team, they have a tendency to cover large spreads against mediocre teams. The Lions and the UNDER

New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts (-5.5)
Over/Under 40.5

New York’s defense will keep them in every game, but their offense will not be able to score enough points to beat Indianapolis. The Colts and the UNDER.

Dallas Cowboys (-7) at Washington Redskins
Over/Under 43

These two always tend to play each other extremely close no matter which team is favored, but after watching the Redskins last Monday night I think they have packed it in for the year. The Cowboys and UNDER

Monday, Dec. 28

Minnesota Vikings (-7) at Chicago Bears
Over/Under 41

Brett Favre will play like he has something to prove in this game and Chicago’s defense is not going to stop him from doing it. The Vikings and the OVER.

It will be elimination Sunday in the AFC with eight teams fighting for two spots. Look for Houston, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and the N.Y. Jets to fall by the wayside this week.
