Two teams that one met in a Super Bowl now meet in game that is meaningless as the Oakland Raiders host the Washington Redskins.

The Raiders season of turmoil is winding down and as miserable as it has been, it somehow seems it could have been even worse. Oakland has won two of their last three and both of those wins came against teams with winning records as did their loss. It’s been a few weeks since Jamarcus Russell was relegated to riding the pine and Bruce Gradowski took over as the starter but the silver and black are a much better team than they were with Russell in the line up. In neither of the two wins were the Raiders ever comfortably ahead and in both cases, they had to fight back late in the game to get the win. This is encouraging for a team who at times recently have looked to have given up. The bulk of this team is young and the future should be pretty solid, it is just getting there will include some growing pains.

The Washington Redskins had the New Orleans Saints beat a week ago and were in perfect position to upend the Saints their first loss of the season. A missed chip shot field goal and a bad fumble in overtime later, the Redskins were sent home losers once again. We some encouraging signs from the Skins as Jason Campbell has looked like a mess for the bulk of the season but last week he showed signs that he may actually have the skills worth working towards developing.

Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts are both gone for the season so Rock Cartwright gets a chance to show what he can do at this level. From top to bottom, Washington has 17 players on the injured list including 10 who are gone for the season which also includes Chris Samuels and Chris Cooley.

Oakland is 1-5 against the spread following a straight up win and they are 3-13-1 against the spread as a home underdog between 1/2 and three points. Washington has covered four in a row but they are 0-6-1 against the spread in their last seven as a favorite.

This isn’t a good game between good teams but this is a game between two teams who can play above their records. I think the Raiders are playing better football right now and I just don’t like the Skins injury list combined with the cross country road trip in what shapes up to be a close game.
