Jeff Fisher has done a good job of turning the Rams around, turning a broken down program into a young, up and coming squad. The 49ers are looking to continue their rein of terror in not only the NFC West, but the NFC in general.

San Francisco

The 49er offense averages 318 yards a game while giving up 337 yards per game this season. With the offense playing very “hit and miss” right now, the defense has stood stout. The last two weeks have yielded big losses to Seattle and Indianapolis in which the offense was absolutely flat.

Injuries hit the 49ers hard last week, with Vernon Davis and Patrick Willis both non-contributors. This week, Aldon Smith is gone after entering a rehabilitation program. This leaves the 49ers defense at a disadvantage. While the pass rush isn’t everything to the 49ers, it still affects a big part of their game.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick is 53 of 94 on the season with 689 yards, 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He also has 129 yards rushing. His biggest target so far has been receiver Anquan Boldin who has 19 catches for 282 yards and a touchdown. Vernon Davis is the only other 49er over 100 yards on the season, with 9 catches for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns.

On defense, linebacker NaVorro Bowman is leading the team in tackles with 20 and has a forced fumble this season. Rookie safety Eric Reid has 2 interceptions on the season while Aldon Smith has 4.5 of the team’s 7 sacks.

St Louis

Sam Bradford has finally got some targets to throw to. The biggest issue in the past seems to be going away slowly as the Rams add more players to their group of receivers. The pickup of rookie Tavon Austin in this year’s draft has been a huge success, helping the offense reach their current 339 yards per game. Bradford on the season is 88 for 141 for 891 yards, 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

St Louis has four different receivers and 3 with 2 touchdowns under their belt already. Tight end Jared Cook has been the biggest target, catching 13 passes for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. Chris givens has the second most receiving yards on the team with 186. Not far behind him is Austin, with 18 catches for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The usual Rams run game has changed a bit with the departure of Steven Jackson. Now, the running back by committee is led by Daryl Richardson who has 98 yards rushing on the year. No Rams running back has scored a rushing touchdown this season.

The defense has gotten a lot younger, too. The leading Ram tackler so far this season is Alec Ogletree, who has 22 tackles a forced fumble. Robert Quinn has 4 of the teams 7 sacks and Trumaine Johnson has the team’s lone interception this season.

Betting Trends

• 49ers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in Week 4.
• 49ers are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games after accumulating less than 150 yards passing in their previous game.
• 49ers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.
• Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU loss of more than 14 points.
• Rams are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.
• Rams are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

Prediction: San Francisco to cover and win

Despite the woes the 49ers are facing and the new and fresh approach of the Rams, the balance of power hasn’t quite shifted yet. The 49ers have too many weapons to stop in this one.
