Tampa Bay Bucs vs. Arizona Cardinals Preview

In a NFC match up this Sunday in the desert between a couple of teams in the playoff race the Arizona Cardinals (3-3) host the Tampa bay Buccaneers (4-2). NFL betting lines have Arizona as 3-point favorites with a total of 39.5.

OK, so the NFC is pretty wide open and maybe not as good as the AFC this season, but maybe Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris was a little over the top stating, “I like where we are. We’re 4-2. We’re the best team in the NFC. Yeah, I said it. We’re excited.” Really? The Bucs the best team in the NFC? Maybe not, but they are 4-2 and are coming off a win and can pull into a tie in the NFC South with a win this Sunday since the 5-2 Falcons have a bye.

Arizona QB Max Hall will get his 3rd straight start even though he suffered a concussion in last week’s loss to Seattle. The undrafted rookie is 1-1 this season, but he only has a QB rating of 43.7 and has only passed for 289 yards in 2 games with 0 TD and 3 INT. He will be facing a solid Tampa Bay secondary that has defended the pass well this season and ranks 2nd in the NFC with 10 INT’s.

The Cardinals’ offense has struggled all season, as they are averaging a league low 237.8 yards per game, have 3 TD passes on the season, and only have 2 offensive TD’s in their last 3 games. However, they will get back #2 WR Steve Breaston, who has missed 4 weeks with a knee injury.

Something’s gotta give in this game, as the Bucs are 2-0 on the road this season and the Cardinals are 2-0 at home.

These teams have not been great betting ones this season, as Tampa Bay is 3-3 ATS and Arizona is 2-4 ATS. While the Bucs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and they are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog of 0.5-3. Arizona has covered the spread in 5 of their last 7 home games. Football betting

In their last games the Buccaneers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 18-17 and the Cardinals lost to the Seattle Seahawks 22-10.

While Bucs’ QB Josh Freeman has not put up big numbers this season he only has 3 INT’s and he is tied for 4th in the NFL in TD passes in the 4th quarter. In last week’s win over the Rams he was 23/40 for 212 yards with 2 TD and 0 INT and led Tampa Bay on a 81-yard drive late in the 4th quarter and tossed a TD pass with only 10 second remaining to get the win. His WR corps is decent and will be facing an Arizona pass defense that has given up an average of 227.3 passing yards per game.

Tampa Bay has one of the worst rushing offenses in the league, but in their last game they picked up 124 yards on the ground and rookie LeGarrette Blount picked up 72 yards averaging 6.5 yards per carry and had a 46-yard run called back because of a penalty. He and a struggling Cadillac Williams will likely pad their stats in this game against an Arizona rushing defense that is giving up an average of 141.3 rushing yards per game. Arizona has to stop the run and make Freeman beat them with his arm, as if they let the Bucs rush for a ton of yards the Cardinals will likely lose their first home game of the season.

Hall has to worry about the ball-hawking secondary of the Bucs and he and WR Larry Fitzgerald have to get on the same page. Fitzgerald is not putting up the numbers he has in the past mainly because he has been double-teamed often and Arizona has gotten poor play for the QB position. However, with #2 WR Breaston back he will see more single coverage and may have a big game.

Much like the Bucs the Cardinals have struggled running the ball this season. However, after averaging only 42 combined rushing yards in their 2 games previous to last week’s game the RB duo of Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells combine to rush for 113 yards against Seattle. Just like the Cardinals the Bucs have not defended the run well this season giving up the 2nd most rushing yards per game in the league (157.7).

The Cardinals will get a good game from Hall as well as their running game and they will also not turn the ball over, which is what killed them in their loss to Seattle. Arizona will win this game and cover the 3-point spread.

Pick Cardinals -3
