Superbowl 46 Betting Online – 2011 Steelers Season Preview

Surrounded by all the turmoil and controversy with their starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, not to mention a four-game suspension, the 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers were able to avoid a slow start on their way to a 12-4 record, an AFC North title, and a playoff run that landed them in Super Bowl XLV.

NFL 2011 Team Preview and Odds – Pittsburgh Steelers
Odds to win the AFC North -120
Odds to win the AFC +450
Odds to win the Super Bowl +1000

This year’s version is once again surrounded by some off-field player issues that will once again test its ability to overcome distraction in order to get back to the championship game.

Steelers Super Bowl Lines & Predictions

Roethlisberger enters the season both mentally and physically ready to go, but his All-Pro wide receiver Hines Ward finds himself in legal trouble after a recent arrest for DUI. The Steelers must not be too concerned with the situation since they released Antwaan Randle El and failed to sign Plaxico Burress.

They still have Mike Wallace, who led the team with 1,257 receiving yards last season and TE Heath Miller, who added 42 receptions for 512 yards, to balance out their passing attack. Pittsburgh will also rely heavily on RB Rashard Mendenhall to lead a running game that averaged 120.2 yards a game last year. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The biggest trouble-maker on the defensive side of the ball was All-Pro LB James Harrison. He not only called out NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, he threw a few of his own teammates under the bus for last season’s 31-25 loss to the Packers in the Super Bowl. When Harrison is not wreaking havoc in his opponent’s backfield, he is best known for racking up hefty fines for some questionable hits.

He will have some added help up front this season with the addition of DT Cam Heyward, who was selected with the 31st overall pick in the draft. The Steelers also added some depth to their secondary by taking a pair of defensive backs, Curtis Brown and Cortez Allen in the third and fourth rounds.

The biggest problem facing Pittsburgh this season will be its ability to refocus its efforts to get back to NFL title game. The last time the team that lost the Super Bowl, returned to play in it the following season was back in 1994, when Buffalo made its fourth and final trip to the championship game.

There is no question that the Steelers have the talent to get there; it is just that the odds are stacked a bit too high against this team to reverse the current 15+ year trend.
