Headline: Two Teams Looking to Rebound – Seahawks vs. Lions in Week 8

Two surprise teams in the NFL meet in a key NFC tilt on Sunday afternoon when the surprisingly good Seattle Seahawks take on the surprisingly underwhelming Detroit Lions. Both teams are coming off losses in close low scoring affairs. The difference in this one could well be the fact that Seattle has had 10 days to prepare while the Lions have had six.

The Seattle Seahawks looked like they took a step backward in their Week 7 loss to San Francisco. The offense simply didn’t come to play except for Marshawn Lynch who rumbled for 103 hard yards on 19 carries. It was rookie Russell Wilson that created all of the Seahawks buzz after Week 7. He went 9 for 23 for 122 yards! Yuk!

Seattle enters Sunday’s game with the second worst passing game in the NFL – just 161.86 yards per game! Their matchup against Detroit is no cake walk – the Lions own the sixth ranked passing defense in the NFL. It will be, as always, Marshawn Lynch that determines whether this team scores or not. The Hawks are 8th in the NFL in rushing offense and they get a crack at the league’s 16th ranked run defense in Detroit.

The Seahawks could take a page out of what Chicago did to Detroit on Monday night – Seattle’s defense is almost on par with a Bears defense that held the Lions out of the end zone for 59 minutes. Currently the Hawks own the league’s 8th ranked pass defense and they are 6th versus the run.

The Detroit Lions sure don’t look like the team that surprised last year do they? Matthew Stafford looks unsure of himself, the offensive line isn’t doing their jobs and the running game has been average at best.

The Lions still have a decent offense – drops and turnovers have plagued this team throughout the year. Also, the fact that their offense doesn`t start to click until the 4th quarter has been a problem. The Lions own the second best passing offense in the NFL averaging 306.67 yards per game but they possess the league`s 19th ranked running game. Mikael Leshoure has looked better so that ranking could rise. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

As mentioned, the Lions defense is no slouch. They likely won`t be threatened in the passing game – it will be up to the 18th ranked run defense to show up and do its part,

Betting Prediction:

  •  The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Seattle’s last 7 games
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Seattle’s last 5 games on the road
  •  Seattle is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
  •  Seattle is 6-3 SU in its last 9 games when playing Detroit
  •  Detroit is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games at home
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Detroit’s last 9 games at home
  •  The total has gone OVER in 4 of Detroit’s last 6 games when playing Seattle
  •  Detroit is 3-6 ATS in its last 9 games when playing Seattle

Despite Detroit`s ugly Monday night performance they did outgain the Bears 340-296. Their major flaw – taking care of the ball! I think they remedy that situation this week at home and score enough against Seattle`s tough defense to pull this game out. Seattle won`t be able to score enough to keep up!

Pick: Detroit Lions -1
