Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears Preview

In the division playoff round this Sunday in the Windy City the NFC North winner Chicago Bears face the surprising NFC West champion Seattle Seahawks. NFL lines have the Bears as big 10-point home favorites in this game with a total of 41.

Last week the Seahawks shocked the football world by beating the defending champion New Orleans Saints 41-36. The covered the spread in the game and this is the 2nd playoff game in a row that Seattle is the underdog by double-digits.

Seattle became the first team to win their division with a losing record and even though they are big underdogs in this game they already beat the Bears in Chicago 23-20 in week 6. However, the Seahawks have not won a playoff game on the road in 27 years.

This season the Bears are 9-6-1 ATS and the Seahawks are 8-9 ATS.

In the week 6 win over the Bears the Seahawks played great defense and sacked Jay Cutler 6 times. However, since that time the Bears, especially their offense line and rushing offense, has played much better and they have looked like a legit Super Bowl contender.

The Seahawks blew up on offense in last week’s HUGE win, as Matt Hasselbeck tossed 4 TD passes. Also, unlike most of the regular season the Seahawks ran the ball well with 150 rushing yards. RB Marshawn Lynch rushed for 131 yards including a 67-yard TD run late in the 4th quarter, which, pretty much, iced the game for Seattle. The Seahawks are much better when their rushing offense shows up, but they will be facing a Bears’ rushing D that ranks 2nd in the league. Football betting

The Seattle offensive line has a tall task in this game keeping the LB duo of Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher and DE Julius Peppers from busting through and stuffing the run.

The Seahawks had issues with turnovers this season, but in the week 6 win over Chicago they did not commit one. They will have to do that again facing a Bears’ defense that ranked 3rd in the league with 35 forced turnovers.

If Chicago can stop the run Hasselbeck will have to move the chains through the air. In the week 6 win he passed for 242 yards with 1 TD and WR Mike Williams had 10 catches for 123 yards. The Bears’ passing defense only ranks 20th in the league and if they can shut down Williams they should be in good shape, as the Seahawks do not have a lot of solid WR options.

One of the main reasons Chicago ended the season strong was their rushing attack. They rushed for over 100 yards in 8 of their last 9 games and RB Matt Forte averaged 119.7 yards per game and an impressive 5.8 yards per carry in Chicago’s last 6 games. The Seahawks and their 21st rushing defense held the Bears to only 61 rushing yards in week 6 and the Saints to only 77 rushing yards last week. If Seattle can keep Forte from having a big game they have a chance to win.

Jay Cutler has to stay upright in this game and if he can do that he may shred Seattle and their 27th ranked pass defense that gave up 397 passing yards last week.

One player that the Seahawks have to key on is kick return stud Devin Hester. He gave the Bears great field position all season and Seattle has to keep that from happening this Sunday.

The Seahawks pulled off a shocker last week, but they will not do so this week. The Bears have a much better defense than the Saints and unlike New Orleans they can run the ball. However, while Chicago will win this game Seattle is on a high and they will play well and not get blown out so they will cover the spread.

Betting Trends

Chicago is 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a home favorite and Seattle is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog.

Pick: Seahawks +10
