San Diego

After being up 24-0 they gave up the game’s final 35 points to lose – at home no less.  Hitting the road might be the best thing for them and visiting Cleveland is about as soft a landing spot as you can find right now.

The AFC West is mediocre and they are in the race but can’t afford to lose this week.

The Chargers continue to be an enigma.  On offense they have a good nucleus with Phillip Rivers at QB, Ryan Mathews running the ball and big Malcolm Floyd as the primary receiver.

TE Antonio Gates may be slowing down but he can still be counted on to make plays.  It just never seems to add up to great success.

They could use some better play on defense but they are not horrible there either giving up just 22ppg.

Last week’s humiliating collapse must have sucked some points out of this one.  Actually I think a lot as it might have been 7 if the Chargers had closed the deal. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

You get a smaller number but it comes with a more fragile team.  Still playing anyone against Cleveland and only needing a FG to win is a high value play.

Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns are bad but at least there is a glimmer of hope for the future.

The enter Sunday having been clipped by Indianapolis after getting their lone victory against the rival Bengals.  Now they are a home dog against SD – they are 2-1 ATS in Cleveland this season.
This team competes hard with a few close losses already this season.

I wouldn’t say they are turning the corner but at least they aren’t an embarrassment.

That glimmer is because mature rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden is showing some positive signs – the last two games he has had QB ratings over 90.  Unfortunately this team can not afford mistakes and Weeden does turn the ball over.

The other key rookie, running back Trent Richardson has been a disappointment so far.  It could be the line but he also looks a little tentative out there.  The Browns need some big plays and he has not provided many.

Cleveland is at home and the Chargers are the Chargers so really anything can happen.

Odds are the Browns will play them pretty close losing by a FG for sure, probably more.

Unless this runs up to 3.5 you should probably stay away on the cleveland side or else tease them all the way to 9 or 10 points.  On second thought don’t do that.

Just let it go.
