Dolphins vs. Patriots Gambling Prediction & Week 8 Preview

Miami vs New England NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

With Tom Brady having his worst year ever it seems like the AFC East is up for grabs this season – but someone has to take it from the Patriots. Early on it looked like the Miami Dolphins could be the one to challenge but they have now lost three straight after a promising start to the season – losing to Buffalo at home last week really hurts.

Miami has played only one of its 6 division games thus far so there is plenty of opportunity to get back in it but a fourth straight loss is hard to overcome in a short NFL season.

Miami

Oh what might have been for Miami. After a three win start they gave it all back losing their next three.

Now they find themselves in third place looking up at even the New York Jets, a surprise for sure.

Speaking of surprises what happened to the Dolphins defense? It was the strength of the team last season and was supposed to get better with some free agent additions and the use of a top draft pick but right now they are 20th in points and 21st in yards allowed. Those are not the kind of figures usually associated with playoff calibre teams.

Similarly, QB Ryan Tannehill needs to be better. His completion percentage is mediocre and he is averaging more than 1 turnover per game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The running game has been awful but Tannehill was supposed to take a step this year. It hasn’t happened that for sure.

New England

The Patriots have been playing a lot of close games this season – all but one has been decided by 7 points or less as they struggled to find their offense in the early going.

With Rob Gronkowski back at tight end against the Jets last week things looked a little better offensively but he is so injury prone you just never know. Further, even with Gronk back the Brady had a miserable day, his worst of the season.

There is something up with him and it can only partly be attributed to the lack of receiving options.

Also concerning is a defense that gave up 30 points to the Jets last week, one of the least innovative and talented offensive clubs in the NFL.

They are being their usual stingy self when it comes to points allowed generally but with big Vince Woolfork out in the middle of that defense their numbers against the run are near the worst in the league.

Miami is hardly a running powerhouse but with a mobile QB and some decent backs they should be able to be productive on Sunday.
