NFL Betting – Week 7 Picks

After navigating some tricky spreads over the last couple of weeks, I’m pleased to say that there are several spreads I really like this week. Hopefully that means it’s easy sledding in NFL Week 7.

WEEK 6 ATS PICKS RECORD: 1-2-1
SEASON ATS PICKS RECORD: 18-11-1

Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans

Sunday, October 23, 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Titans -3.5

With Indy and Jacksonville out of the picture, the AFC South should belong to Houston or Tennessee this season, so this Sunday’s battle between the two is a biggie. Houston is fresh off two disappointing losses and Tennessee got humbled by Pittsburgh before its bye week.

Based on Houston’s balanced offensive makeup, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it mimic Pittsburgh’s performance. Matt Schaub isn’t as talented as Big Ben Roethlisberger but can still move the ball on a Tennessee “D” that may have been overrated before the Pittsburgh game because of easy early-season matchups against Jacksonville, Denver and Cleveland. Toss in Arian Foster and a strong running attack and I think Houston can score on Tennessee.

On the flip side, the Steelers limited Matt Hasselbeck’s effectiveness and an improved Houston “D” could do the same, especially with Kenny Britt out for the season. I like Houston to cover on the road. Pick: Texans +3.5

Denver Broncos vs Miami Dolphins

Sunday, October 23, 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Dolphins -2.5

The Tim Tebow era begins! I for one am excited. The Miami Dolphins’ defense has played better of late, looking competent against the Jets last Monday, but it’s hard to prepare for what Tebow brings to the table. Like Cam Newton, Tebow looks raw at times and makes the odd poor decision, but he’s a freak athlete who can avoid rushes to make throws and also call his own number and run guys over.

Because of Tebow alone, I think Denver can win this game. On top of him, I have no confidence in Miami’s offense right now, even against Denver. Could Von Miller have a monster game against Matt More? Pick: Broncos +2.5 [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Atlanta Falcons vs Detroit Lions

Sunday, October 23, 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Lions -3.5

Falcons/Lions is my favorite game of the week and not an easy betting choice. We all know how deadly the Lions have been so far this season but last week revealed some vulnerability. Frank Gore ran wild on Detroit in the loss to San Francisco. Even in their win the week prior, Matt Forte gouged Detroit on the ground, too. The Lions are quietly just 26th in the NFL in run defense.

For all the talk that Atlanta’s offense has been too tentative and that Matt Ryan isn’t himself, the conservative, run-first attack should work perfectly against Detroit. I expect Michael Turner to have a big day – and for Atlanta to pull the road upset based on ball control and keeping the ball out of Matthew Stafford’s hands.

Pick: Falcons +3.5

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Arizona Cardinals

Sunday, October 23, 4:05 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Steelers -3.5

This is the “am I missing something, here?” spread of the week. I know Pittsburgh had a surprisingly tough time putting Jacksonville away last week but the Jags can actually play defense. Arizona has looked mighty shaky despite only facing Carolina, Washington, Seattle, the Giants and Minnesota. Arguably, Pittsburgh is the best offense to face the Cards yet.

I expect Big Ben to pick Arizona apart. Don’t be surprised if Mike Wallace has a monster game. Arizona is equipped to score a bit on Pittsburgh and keep the game within reach – but the spread is only 3.5 points! Like I said: am I missing something, here? Pick: Steelers -3.5
