Both the Steelers and the Bengals have high hopes in 2013 – the Bengals emerged from their Week 1 game relatively unscathed while the Steelers were absolutely decimated by injuries in their Week 1 loss.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ loss in Week 1 came with a price. Not only will Pittsburgh have to live with the sting of losing their home opener versus an average Titans team, but they also lost Center Maurkice Pouncy for the year, they lost LaRod Stevens-Howling for the season and they also lost one of their defensive leaders Larry Foote for the year as well.

Three quality starters gone after Week 1 – it seems a tad unfair!

Pittsburgh’s offense is in some trouble! Ben Roethlisberger didn’t even reach 200 yards in Week 1 and the running game gained just 32 total yards. The team netted just 195 yards of total offense against an average Titans defense and now they have the task of facing a Bengals squad that is touted to be one of the better defensive units in the game this season. Ben’s suspect leaky O-line got a whole lot sketchier Sunday – it is hard to imagine how this guy is going to hold up with a lack of protection. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Defensively the Steelers looked good allowing just 229 yards of offense and just 70 rushing yards to Chris Johnson. They are still among the elite defenses in the game but without Larry Foote they could be in some trouble.

The Cincinnati Bengals let one slip away against the Bears last week – up 21-10 the Bears managed two TDs in the last quarter and a half to post tie comeback win. It was an early season choke that the Bengals hope doesn’t come back to haunt them.

The Bengals offense looked to be in midseason form – for the first half of the game! Andy Dalton passed for 282 yards and 2 TDs both to Stud AJ Green who also posted 162 yards receiving. The problem is that nobody else did anything for this team and the Bengals gained a total of 23 yards in the last quarter and a half of the game. Cincinnati was also guilty of a couple of bad turnovers that cost them.

One positive thing for the Bengals going forward? Their issues can be fixed and the opening week jitters are a thing of the past starting this Monday!

Cincinnati’s defense was a tad underwhelming as well in Week 1 – they will be better heading into this week. It is true that they held Matt Forte in check Sunday but the team was unable to stop Brandon Marshall and the passing game. The Bengals defense is touted to be one of the best this season – they will be looking to bounce back from their collapse in Week 1.

MNF Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider

• Under is 8-0 in PIT last 8 games in Week 2.
• Over is 7-2 in PIT last 9 road games.
• Under is 7-2 in PIT last 9 vs. AFC North.
• Under is 8-2 in CIN last 10 games overall.
• CIN are 2-7-2 ATS in their last 11 vs. AFC North.
• CIN are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
• PIT are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 meetings.
• Road team is 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 meetings.

Both the Steelers and the Bengals were touted as possible playoff teams this year – their Week 1 efforts were uncharacteristic of these teams. But heading into Week 2 it is hard to imagine the Steelers being able to overcome the loss of a few key starters on an already thin roster. The Bengals will be a motivated team for sure and it looks as though they may have caught the Steelers at the perfect time. Expect the Steelers O-line to become a glaring weakness again, for Ben Roethlisberger to be running for his life again and for the Steelers to struggle mightily in Week 2. Cincinnati has a sense of optimism going forward – the Steelers have nothing but desperation.

Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -6 1/2
