Dallas vs. Green Bay: Sunday Night Football Week 9 NFL Lines

Sunday Night NFL Betting – Cowboys Face Uphill Battle In Green Bay

The Dallas Cowboys’  lost season continues Sunday night, as a banged-up and limited team goes on the road to play an increasingly confident Green Bay squad.

This is a nightmare the Dallas Cowboys simply can’t escape.

Their season was going poorly even with Tony Romo at quarterback, but when Dallas’ signal caller suffered a broken collar bone and was forced to miss eight weeks as a result, the Cowboys’ ability to be competitive took a major hit.

Week 9 Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers Betting Matchup
Date/Time: Sunday, November 7th, 8:20 PM ET
Venue: Lambeau Field
Broadcast: NBC
Odds: Cowboys +9.5, Packers -9.5
Total: 45.5

What hasn’t helped in Dallas is the fact that the Cowboys’ defense – in response to Romo’s injury – has tanked. The Cowboys allowed 41 points at home against the New York Giants, and they then surrendered 35 points to the not-very-high-powered Jacksonville Jaguars, also on home turf. Now, Dallas has to go to Green Bay to take on a Packer team that has surged to the lead in the NFC North and is playing with great energy and passion.

It all sets up very poorly for embattled Dallas coach Wade Phillips.

How Can Dallas Win?

For Dallas, the biggest key is not related to Xs and Os or any other strategic components of football.

The main priority for this team, especially on defense, is to care. Dallas’ defense has been pathetic the last few weeks in games that have demanded a far better effort. Instead of rallying to an offense that is undeniably going to be limited without Tony Romo, the defense has seemingly given up on the season and checked out before each of its last two games have even developed.

Dallas is quitting on the field, and Phillips has not won the trust of his players, even though he has a reputation for being a player’s kind of coach. If Dallas doesn’t compete hard on every single snap, especially in the first quarter, you can forget about anything else that pertains to this pigskin passion play in Wisconsin.

How Can Green Bay Win?

It’s not very complicated for the Packers, a team that shut out the New York Jets on the road last weekend. If the Packers don’t make mistakes, they’re going to win this game.

They have more talent on offense and simply need to make the game simple for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. With max-protect schemes and a commitment to keeping Rodgers healthy, Green Bay can use a short passing game to wear down Dallas’ impatient and frail defense.

Moreover, Green Bay is sporting a very active and alert defense that is playing its very best ball of the season. Up against mediocre Dallas quarterback Jon Kitna, Green Bay won’t feel very threatened.

The Packers won’t have to pile up a lot of points to win this game. They can afford to be conservative and focus on basic execution.

There’s simply no reason to think Dallas will be remotely competitive in this game. Green Bay has the far better quarterback, home-field advantage, and a flourishing defense. This game’s being played at night before an especially enthusiastic crowd. Dallas is in huge trouble, and Green Bay will easily cover the number.

Pick: Packers -9.5
