The Oakland Raiders were the talk of the preseason, looking like a team that could potentially go 0-16, but they’ve looked better than expected, winning their only home game, and losing on the road to a pair of playoff teams.

If the Washington Redskins needed to hit rock bottom to turn their season around, they hit it last week, allowing the Detroit Lions to snap a 21-game losing streak in Washington.

The Redskins had more success on the ground against the Lions than they’ve had in previous outings, with Alfred Morris racking up 73 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown, averaging 4.9 yards per rush. Robert Griffin III added 37 yards on six carries. Griffin III also had a decent day through the air, completing 32 of 50 passes for 326 yards with an interception. Seven different players caught passes, but Pierre Garcon was the top target on the night, bringing in eight balls for 73 yards, and adding a 10-yard rush.

The Lions had a ton of success through the air against Washington. Matt Stafford completed 25 of 42 passes for 385 yards and a pair of scores with an interception. A positive that a bad Washington defense can draw on is that they limited Lions starter Joique Bell to 63 yards on 20 carries. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Oakland will be playing in the grey this week, as they’ll be practicing without starting quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who suffered a concussion in the Monday night game against Denver. Matt Flynn will be taking the majority of reps in practice, and could get the start. That will mean trouble for Flynn and the Raiders. The team hasn’t done a good job of keeping the pocket clean, but Pryor has been able to extended plays using his feet. Without that added dimension, they could be in trouble.

Oakland couldn’t get their ground game going against Denver on Monday night. Darren McFadden gained only nine yards on 12 carries. The team’s biggest play came from Denarius Moore, who broke a tackle on an intermediate pass and went the distance for a 73-yard score.

The team’s defense did little to slow Peyton Manning and the Bronco offense. Manning completed 32 of 37 passes for 374 yards and three scores. The Denver rushing game also had plenty of success, compiling 164 yards and a 4.7 yard per carry average.

Both teams have played better than their records indicate, but expect Washington to play with a little more desperation than the Raiders. Washington should get their running game back on track after playing from behind in each of their first three games.

The Redskins are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games.

The play: Washington -3.5
