Week 8 Odds: Minnesota vs Tampa Bay

The Minnesota Vikings (2-5) take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-5) in week 8 action. As always, come back to Cappers Picks daily for our latest NFL picks. We provide picks during the entire season.

Tampa Bay was on a bye last week after being crushed by Baltimore the prior week. Minny lost to the Bills by one point, as Kyle Orton found Sammy Watkins in the endzone with time expiring in the game.

This isn’t the most exciting game on the schedule, but from a betting standpoint I like it. Both teams have been playing poorly all season, but this is a great spot for the Buccaneers to pick up a win.

Not only are they coming off of their bye week, but they’re also at home against a Minnesota team that is 1-3 on the road (0-3 Without AP). At –2.5 points the point spread is a point too low in my opinion.

You wouldn’t expect many points between these two poor offenses. Tampa Bay scores 20.0 PPG (26th) and Minnesota scores 17.1 PPG (30th), but you never know when two poor teams play each other.

Often times there will be an offensive outburst with both teams scoring plenty of points. Minny will try to establish the run. They average 125.3 RYPG (10th) while the Bucs are allowing 128.3 RYPG (25th).

The Bucs best chance is to get Doug Martin in the game early. Tampa only averages 89.8 RYPG (28th) due to poor blocking and RB play, but the Vikes aren’t a good run-stopping unit (118.1 RYPG – 19th).

We have two young QB’s battling it out in this one as well, but both of them need their offense to get the run going. Teddy Bridgewater and Mike Glennon are the expected starters for this week’s game.

McCown still isn’t ready to go for the Bucs. Tampa’s averaging 217.0 PYPG (24th) and will have trouble to get things going through the air against a Vikings defense that only allows 219.7 PYPG (7th).

Bridgewater should have even more problems on the road. Tampa allows 294.5 PYPG (32nd), so it’s a good match-up on paper for the Vikes, but they have too many injuries right now on the o-line.

If the o-line is unable to protect Bridgewater and block for the RB’s the Minny offense isn’t going to put up many points. Tampa won’t score much either, but I trust them more at home than I do Minny.

4* Free NFL Pick: Minnesota Vikings vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There are a lot of reasons why I think the Bucs will be able to win this game and cover ATS. It’s always tough betting on games with two poor teams because it’s hard to trust either team to show up.

Tampa has had plenty of time to watch the tapes of Minny and they’ll have a game plan on how to stop their one-dimensional offense. TB is rested, at home and favored by less than a FG. I can’t pass that up.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers –2.5 (-110)
