New York vs Seattle Betting

Headline: Jets In Seattle to Face the Home Demons Seattle in Week 10

The New York Jets fresh off a much needed bye make the cross country flight this week to face the Seattle Seahawks in one of the toughest buildings to visit in the NFL. The Seahawks are a perfect 4-0 at CenturyLink Field so far this year and look unstoppable at times in their own building. .

For New York, a win is critical in order to stay in the AFC playoff race. For the Seahawks, getting to 6-4 keeps them in the thick of a cloudy mid-season NFC playoff picture.

New York Jets have lost two straight and four of their past five games. They fell to 3-5 on the year following a 30-9 home defeat in week eight to the Miami Dolphins as a -1 point betting favorite. Coming off their bye, you would think that Coach Rex Ryan has to have shored up a few glaring weaknesses on a team that is fading fast and is becoming a somewhat easy mark.

As it stands, the Jets own the 25th ranked passing offense in the NFL averaging 207.63 yards per game. They also have the league’s 14th ranked rushing game – not great but showing signs of improvement over the last three games. Mark Sanchez has completed just 52.9 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions while being sacked 18 times. Shonn Greene is averaging 3.7 yards per carry with five touchdowns and Bilal Powell is averaging 3.9 yards per carry. Jeremy Kerley is the Jets leading receiver with 30 catches and two touchdowns and Dustin Keller and Chaz Schilens each have 16 catches.

Defensively, the Jets have been a bit of a disappointment – the loss of Darrelle Revis has really hurt this team. Without Revis the Jets are still 6th against the run but are a brutal 29th against the pass. You can bet that the bye week was used to shore up the run defense – Seattle will certainly go after this unit early and often. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Seattle Seahawks won their fourth game at home in four tries last week against Minnesota. The Seattle defense held Minnesota to just a field goal in the second half, Russell Wilson completed 16 of 24 throws for 173 yards and three touchdowns and Marshawn Lynch ran for 124 yards with a touchdown. Sidney Rice grabbed four balls for 54 yards with a touchdown. The Hawks are terrific at home offensively and great defensively no matter where they play.

Seattle still owns the second worst pass offense in the league – a tad deceptive in my eyes. They also have the 7th ranked rushing offense. At home, Marshawn Lynch looks like a man possessed and Russell Wilson looks poised beyond his years.

Seattle’s defense continues to be the strength of the team – they are the reason that Seattle is 5-4. Last week the Seahawks defense allowed the Minnesota offense just 287 yards with just 44 yards coming from their passing game and they held Minnesota to just a field goal in the second half. The D has allowed just 17.11 points per game (3rd in the NFL); they are 7th against the pass and 11th versus the run. As mentioned before – at home their stats are that much better!

Betting Prediction:

• NY Jets are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games when playing Seattle
• The total has gone OVER in 18 of the NY Jets last 23 games on the road
• NY Jets are 4-8 ATS in their last 12 games on the road
• NY Jets are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games
• Seattle is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home
• The total has gone OVER in 8 of Seattle’s last 11 games at home
• The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Seattle’s last 9 games
• Seattle is 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games when playing NY Jets

Seattle is a seriously confident team and with the 12th man behind them I like them to continue their home win streak. The point spread scares me however! Off the bye, and in what figures to be a defensive game, I like the Jets to keep this game close. This smells like a field goal game to me.

Pick: New York Jets +6 1/2
