Arizona has beaten two top dogs the last two weeks but would be wise to take the Rams seriously – St. Louis is a much better team than their 3-5 record suggests.

Rams

The Rams are no joke especially when taking on teams within their own division. Of St. Louis’s three wins on the season, two have come against Seattle and the 49ers. St. Louis is pulling out all the stops lately – crazy trick plays on special teams paved the way for one win and stellar defense last week led to another victory.

The Rams absolutely shut down the 49ers last week – surprising considering that San Francisco was coming out of their bye. The Rams allowed just 263 yards of offense in last week’s win, generated eight sacks against the nimble Colin Kaepernick and they forced three fumbles.

St. Louis looks as though they have turned the corner defensively and are realizing the lofty goals that many envisioned before the season started.

Offensively the Rams have not been great – but nobody really expected them to be with Sam Bradford out for the season. Quarterback Austin Davis started the season like a house on fire but has fallen back to earth as of late. Davis went 13-for-24 last week for just 105 yards, a TD and two interceptions – and now he faces the stifling Cardinals defense.

St. Louis likely won’t be able to run the ball – their running backs have been poor all season long and the offensive line has had more than their share of issues run blocking and protecting the quarterback for that matter.

Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals may have caught a break in Week 9 with Tony Romo being forced to sit in their showdown with the Dallas Cowboys but we can’t take away what they accomplished Sunday – namely holding DeMarco Murray down and gaining the 28-17 win over the Cowboys.

Dez Bryant caught just two passes against Patrick Peterson for 15 years and the pass rush absolutely terrorized the Dallas offensive line all game long.

Yes, the Cardinals are a defense first team and a good one at that. They are tops in the NFL in interceptions and with the emergence of Tyrann Mathieu, the pass defense is quickly catching up to the league`s third ranked run defense. It is awfully hard to imagine the struggling St. Louis offense getting much if anything accomplished against Arizona for sure.

That leaves the onus on the Arizona offense to do enough to get by the Rams emerging defense. The team is averaging over 20 points per game and although they haven`t been off the charts this season they have done enough on most Sundays to get the desirable effects.

Carson Palmer looks healthy again and has thrown eight TDs in his last four starts, Larry Fitzgerald looks back to form and running back Andre Ellington looks like the answer to a seemingly age-old question in the desert.

Simply put the Cardinals are one of the most well rounded teams in the game right now – they are able to beat you with defense and offense.

Arizona`s defense will dominate and Carson Palmer and crew will do enough to guide the Cards to a relatively easy.
