It should be an intriguing showdown between New England’s top tier offense versus Seattle’s top ranked defense – let’s take a closer look!

The New England Patriots come into Sunday’s game as the top scoring team in the NFL with 33 points per game – what else is new?

The offense has been magnificent yet again but something is different this year for Brady and the boys – they are actually getting a contribution from their running game!

That’s right – the Pats have rumbled for over 200 yards on the ground in two consecutive games and they have the third ranked running game in the NFL! Not that they will be able to run on Seattle but balance on offense is a new concept in New England – one that makes Tom Brady that much more dangerous.

Tom and gang will still air the ball out. They are 9th in the league in passing averaging 274 yards per game. Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski are two of the scariest weapons in the league and will surely be a challenge for Seattle’s stingy defense.

New England’s defense is beatable for sure – 30th against the pass allowing 291 yards per game and 8th against the run. They give up 22.60 points per game – good enough for 17th in the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks have won two straight games and return home this week where they have looked virtually unbeatable in wins over the Cowboys and the Packers – if you can call that a win! Their success has been due to defense and Marshawn Lynch – nobody else on the team has done much!

The biggest matchup in this game will be the Pats offense versus Seattle’s defense. The Hawks have allowed the second fewest points per game so far this season (14 per game) and they are fifth versus the pass (192 yards allowed per game) and 3rd against the run. This unit has been sensational this year and will get the help of their rabid ear-blowing home town crowd this week. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Seattle offense won’t win this game. They are 28th in scoring and they are the 31st ranked passing game in the NFL with just 147 yards per game. Russell Wilson looked OK last week passing for over 200 yards but he did throw two interceptions – that makes five in the last two weeks.

Turning the ball over and giving Tom Brady some short fields is not advised – obviously.

Marshawn Lynch has been the offensive saviour this season for Seattle.

The Hawks have the 7th ranked running game because of him.

Lynch’s effectiveness will be paramount Sunday – he is the only way the Hawks move the ball and keep Mr. Brady on the sidelines.

Betting Prediction:

  • New England is 6-0-1 ATS in its last 7 games on the road
  • New England is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games on the road
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of New England’s last 7 games on the road
  • New England is 13-3 SU in its last 16 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Seattle’s last 5 games
  • Seattle is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games at home
  • Seattle is 5-2 SU in its last 7 games when playing New England
  • The total has gone OVER in 11 of Seattle’s last 16 games at home

Seattle is a team built to grind games out and unfortunately they are reliant on teams having as much trouble moving the ball as them.

The only way to defeat the Pats is through offensive firepower and Seattle has none of that. Expect Seattle to keep this game close for a while but in the end they just won’t be able to keep up with an offense that is clicking on all cylinders.

It is tough going against Seattle at home but I see the Pats winning by a touchdown in a lower scoring game in this one.

Pick: New England Patriots -3 1/2
