Minnesota vs N.Y. Monday NFL Betting – Moss Makes Return In Purple And Gold

The Minnesota Vikings may be coming off a bye week, but that doesn’t mean that nothing exciting happened in their off-week. On Wednesday the Vikings shocked the league by trading for New England Patriots receiver Randy Moss. On Friday, it was reported that quarterback Brett Favre is having elbow troubles.

Meanwhile, the New York Jets couldn’t care less about who’ll be catching passes in Minnesota. They have won three straight, are welcoming back cornerback Darrelle Revis after a two-game absence and get a shot at their former starting quarterback, Favre.

How Minnesota Can Win:

Instant chemistry between Favre and Moss is a necessity for the Vikings, and it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Favre loves to throw the deep ball, and Moss can pretty much catch anything within his arm range; it’s almost a match made in heaven. As a matter of fact, Favre has lobbied to get Moss on his teams in the past.

The acquisition of Moss stretches the field for Minnesota in a way no receiver could do so far this year for the Vikings. That will trickledown into success for the rest of the team, most notably, running back Adrian Peterson.

On defense, the team has to focus on the Jets running game. LaDanian Tomlinson is running like it’s 2006, coming off his first 100-yard rushing game of 2010. He looks like he did in his prime and is pacing the Jets offense to an excellent start this year. The Vikings are supposed to have one of the best run defense in the NFL and they better hope to bring it with them on Monday.

How New York Can Win:

Darrelle Revis needs to play as if he was never injured. After all, he did injury his hamstring chasing Moss into the end zone.

He’ll most likely be charged with covering Moss – again – who will no doubt be playing with a lot of energy for his new/old team. Moss made Revis look silly in their week two matchup, an outcome that is unacceptable for supposedly the best cornerback in the league. If he can suffocate Moss in the passing game, Favre will be forced to run around and find new receivers. The Jets want to keep Favre out of rhythm.

Offensively, conservatism rules. A strong running game with a few big passes sprinkled in has worked so far; there’s no reason to believe it can’t do so against Minnesota. Mark Sanchez has built some chemistry with his receievers and now has the Jets debut of Santonio Holmes to look forward too. Holmes was suspended for the first four games of the season and gives the already dangerous Jets another strong weapon on offense. Sanchez has yet to throw an interception this season because he hasn’t been trying to force anything; no need to try anything new now.

Outlook

The Jets are finally rounding into the Super Bowl-contending form everyone expected them to be. Sanchez isn’t an elite quarterback but he’s not losing games, which is something that couldn’t be said last year. As for Minnesota, the good will brought by the Moss acquisition will also bring wins, just not this week. The team is still a little weak on talent when compared to the Jets. Plus, New York is at home; that’s always an advantage.
