Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans Preview

On the season the Texans are 4-3 ATS and they have an O/U record of 4-3 and the Titans are 2-4-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 2-5.

This season the Titans are 1-2 at home and the Texans are 1-3 on the road.

In their last games the Texans lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-23 on Monday night and the Titans lost to the Washington Redskins 19-17.

This AFC South meeting is one between a couple of struggling teams, as the Titans have lost 5 of their last 6 games and the Texans have lost 3 in a row. The Texans are the 2-point road favorites in this game and while they have lost 3 straight all 3 teams were solid and all were close games.

Who will be under center for Tennessee in this game? Jake Locker has missed the last couple of games, but should be ready to go. However, backup Charlie Whitehurst has been decent this season and he may get the starting nod. Still the defense of the Titans may be the biggest concern, as they do not rank in the top 20 in the NFL in either pass or run defense.

While Houston has J.J. Watt their defense has also struggled. They only rank 20th in the league in run defense and 26th in pass defense and in their last 3 games they have given up an average of 27 ppg. They have to shore up on D to win this game, as they do not have a dynamic offense to say the least and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is not a signal caller that will light up the scoreboard.

The Texans played a sloppy game in the loss to the Steelers with 3 turnovers and they cannot do that on the road in this division game. Watt had a sack and recovered a fumble, but the Steelers played him well in the 2nd half and if Tennessee and their offensive line can do the same they can get a W.

The one main player the Titans have to worry about is RB Adrian Foster, who rushed for over 100 yards even in the loss to the Steelers. Foster ranks 2nd in the league in rushing yards and has rushed for over 100 yards in 5 of 6 games this season including his last 3. Tennessee was decent against the run in the Washington loss giving up 100 yards on the ground.

Bishop Sankey has filled in for the injured Shonn Green at RB for the Titans and while he has been decent he has not rushed for over 65 yards in any game this season. The Texans did lose on Monday night, but their run D was solid holding Pittsburgh to only 76 rushing yards.
