Houston Texans vs. Dallas Cowboys Preview

On the season the Texans are 3-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 2-2 and the Cowboys are also at 3-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 2-2.

The Cowboys are 1-1 at home this season and the Texans are 1-1 on the road.

In their last games the Cowboys beat the New Orleans Saints 38-17 and the Texans beat the Buffalo Bills 23-17.

Well, it’s bragging rights for the Lone Star State this Sunday in the Big D when the Dallas Cowboys host the Houston Texans. The Cowboys are hot winners of 3 straight and they are the 4-point betting favourite facing the Texans.

Really, the Cowboys lead the league in rushing yards per game and only rank 20th in passing yards per game? Yeah, that is the fact, as Tony Romo is finally getting some help from the rushing attack led by DeMarco Murray, who leads the NFL in rushing yards and has rushed for over 100 yards in all 4 games this season. Murray is on fore, which may spell trouble for the Houston run defense, which only ranks 24th in the league.

Ok, so the Texans are 3-1 and are in first place in the AFC South, but how good are they? Their 3 wins have come against the Redskins, Raiders, and Bills with their one loss coming against the Giants. Their D has not looked good and they only rank 19th in the league in both passing yards per game and rushing yards per game.

The Dallas pass D only ranks 26th in the league and even in the big Sunday night win they allowed New Orleans’ Drew Brees to pass for 340 yards. However, this Sunday they will be facing Ryan Fitzpatrick, who only has 2 TD as opposed to 5 INT in his last 2 games.

One key player that the Dallas defense has to worry about is RB Adrian Foster. He rushed for over 100 yards in the first 2 games of the season, but will he be ready for this non-conference encounter? He was less than 100% in the Buffalo game, after missing the previous game with a hamstring injury, and while he could not run the ball he had 7 catches out of the backfield for 55 yards. If he cannot go or is still inured it will be a big blow, as Fitzpatrick is not a QB that can carry the team’s offense by himself.

While Romo is not putting up big numbers he does have 6 TD in his last 3 games and only 1 INT. His offensive line has a tall task in this game trying to contain J.J Watt, who had a pick 6 last week and will come after the Dallas QB all game long.

NFL Week 5 Betting Trends

  • Houston is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games.
  • Houston is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. win.

  • Dallas is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Murray will have another good game as will Romo, as the Cowboys will win at home and cover the 4-point spread as well.
