Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview

On the season the Falcons are 3-5 ATS and they have an O/U record of 3-5 and the Bucs are 3-5 ATS and they have an Under record of 4-4.

This season the Bucs are 0-4 at home and the Falcons are 0-4 on the road.

In their last games the Falcons lost to the Detroit Lions 22-21 and the Bucs lost to the Cleveland Browns 22-17.

Well, one thing you can be sure of in this NFC South match up is that the Bucs will get their first home win of the season or the Falcons will get their first road win. Odds makers have this game as a pick-em between a couple of teams that are at the bottom of the NFC South.

Earlier this season in Atlanta the Falcons crushed the Bucs winning 56-14 with Atlanta totaling 488 yards on offense.

While these teams have combined for 3 wins this season neither is out of the playoff picture since the Saints are in first place in the division sitting at 4-4.

Surprising that the Falcons are not the betting favorite in this division game. Yeah, they are on the road, but Matt Ryan leads their 7th ranked passing offense and they will be facing a Tampa Bay pass defense that ranks 2nd to last in the NFL.

The Falcons won 2 of their first 3 games on the season, but have lost 5 straight since. Their offense has failed to score more than 21 points in their last 4 games and with their defensive issues that has to change.

Matt Ryan has been decent in the last few games, but he is really not getting much help. He has Julio Jones and Roddy White, who have combined for 88 catches and over 1,150 receiving yards on the season, but opposing teams have been keying on them keeping them out of the end zone. So far the signing of RB Steven Jackson has been a bust, as this season he has failed to rush for 100 yards in any game and is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry. Tampa Bay only ranks 18th in the league in run defense, but in their last loss to Cleveland they only gave up 50 yards on the ground.

Mike Glennon has been decent at QB for the Bucs since taking over for the ineffective Josh McCown and he has 10 TD and 6 INT on the season. Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson are his 2 main targets and both are tall WR’s that may give the Falcons and their struggling secondary major match up problems. He should have time to find these guys, as Atlanta ranks dead last in the league with 7 sacks.

Tampa Bay leading rusher Bobby Rainey broke out if his slump in the last game rushing for 87 yards averaging a legit 4.6 yards per carry in the loss to Cleveland. Atlanta ranks 25th in the league in run defense and he will get his chances in this game.

Tough call here, but have to go with the Falcons simply because they have Ryan and a solid WR corps.
