While Cam Newton passed for over 300 yards in the loss to the Eagles he was sacked 9 times and had 3 picks. TE Greg Olson and rookie WR Kelvin Benjamin are his main targets and Newton will have a good chance to pad their stats since the Falcons rank dead last in the NFL in pass defense and 2nd to last in total sacks.
The Panthers rushed for over 100 yards in the Eagles’ game, but their top 2 RB’s struggled in the game and while the Atlanta run defense has had their issues this season they held Tampa Bay to under 95 rushing yards.
Matt Ryan has been one of the bright spots for the Falcons this season and ranks 5th in the NFL in passing yards. Roddy White and Julio Jones both had big games against Tampa Bay and if the Panthers can’t keep them in check they are in trouble.
There was a Steven Jackson sighting in Tampa Bay last week, as he had 81 rushing yards and averaged over 5 yards per carry. While the Carolina pass defense was torched against the Eagles they did hold them to only 37 rushing yards.
