Jacksonville vs Seattle Betting?

David and Goliath Game of the Week – Jags visit Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks get a little bit of a break this week – a “mini-bye” when they host the worst team in the NFL – the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3. The Hawks could use it after an impressive beat-down of perhaps the best team in the NFL – the 49ers in Week 2.

The Jags on the other hand lost again last week to one of the bottom tier teams in the league – the Oakland Raiders. The Vegas lines echo the sentiment that this game seems a bit unfair – it has been a long time since we have seen a team enter a week as a 20 point underdog!

To say that the Jacksonville Jaguars have been unimpressive so far this young season is a colossal understatement! They have averaged 5.5 points per game thus far and have scored just one TD along the way. Add in the fact that they will likely go with backup QB Chad Henne and they will trot out a banged up Maurice Jones-Drew – ugh!

That said Henne actually threw for more yards that Russell Wilson last week but faces a Seattle defense that made Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton look average. Good luck against Seattle’s incredible secondary Mr. Henne. As mentioned, the Jags offense has only produced on TD all season long and now face a Hawks defense that kept the potent 49ers out of the end zone last week – double ugh!

The only chance that the Jags have Sunday is if Maurice Jones-Drew is dominant and he has a tendon sprain in his ankle. Jacksonville has averaged just 2.5 yards per carry this season and the Hawks allowed Frank Gore just 1.8 yards per carry on Sunday night. Add in the fact that Jacksonville has one of the worst O-lines in the game and the prospects seem grim for Jones-Drew.

On defense – the Jaguars made Darren McFadden look all-world last week – nuff said! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Seattle Seahawks haven’t exactly lit the scoreboard up in their two games this year but they have been efficient and every single part of their offense has shown flashes this season. It was the passing game in Week 1 and Marshawn Lynch in Week 2. The offense has been doing its part supporting and picking up a defense that has been off the charts so far.

How good has Seattle’s defense been? Greg Olsen’s five-catch, 56-yard performance in Week 1 is the best individual effort by a wide receiver or tight end allowed by the Seahawks in their first two games. It is hard to imagine Cecil Shorts and Clay Harbor besting NFC Defensive Player of the Week Richard Sherman and company.

And then there is the 12th man. They are a true difference maker – just ask Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers.

Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider

• Under is 8-0 in SEA last 8 games in September.
• SEA are 24-9-1 ATS in their last 34 games overall.
• Over is 7-3 in SEA last 10 games on fieldturf.

The Jaguars are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games, and 0-5 straight-up in their last five. The Seahawks, meanwhile, are 8-1 against the spread and 5-0 straight up – but 19 1/2 points? I know the Jags are on a completely different level but in a league that preaches parity I just can’t go with a 19 1/2 point favorite! Seattle wins the game but takes their foot off the gas a little in the second half.

Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars +19 1/2 to cover the spread
