The New York Giants, fresh off an uninspiring victory over the Chicago Bears travel to Houston in Week 5 in attempts to start a winning streak. The Giants have been wildly inconsistent this season but despite that, they sit in a share of first place in the always tough NFC East.
The Giants, surprisingly own the eighth ranked overall offense in the NFL. Eli Manning and the passing game rank 10th and the running game, anchored by Ahmad Bradshaw currently sit seventh. Eli and his young set of receivers will likely be called upon more often than not this week against the high powered Texans. 
The running game has reestablished itself this season despite the continuing troubles of Brandon Jacobs. Ahmad Bradshaw has claimed the unquestioned starter status and rightfully so. Still, the battering ram Brandon Jacobs is present in the backfield ready to either get the hard yards or fumble it away. Bradshaw is a little nicked right now meaning that Jacobs could see some more action this week.
The Giants defense has been strong this season and is the reason why they have their two wins. They are ranked third overall – second against the pass and 21st against the run. This unit was able to generate 10 sacks and it gave up just 110 total yards to a previously undefeated Bears team last week.
The Houston Texans are once again an offensive force in the NFL. However, it is not the passing game that is getting it done – it is the rushing offense that currently leads the NFL. Matt Schaub has looked average so far this season and Andre Johnson has been dealing with the dreaded high ankle sprain.
It has been the Arian Foster show in Houston so far. Despite some personal conduct issues, he has emerged as one of the most reliable backs in the league. It is only a matter of time before his rushing abilities opens the door for the potent passing game.
Welcome back Brian Cushing – your team need you! The Texans are currently the worst defense in the NFL despite ranking third against the run. Cushing’s suspension is over and he should add an element of grit in a defense that has been uber-soft all season.
Betting Prediction:
The New York Giants are 17-8 S/U in their last 25 games on the road but are just 2-4 S/U in their last six games overall. The Giants are 1-5 ATS on the road in their last six games and are just 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
The Houston Texans are 15-7 S/U in their last 22 games at home, are 7-1 S/U in their last eight games at home but are only 2-4-1 ATS in their last seven home games.
Brian Cushing’s return to the Houston lineup is a huge boost to a defense that has struggled to stop anyone this year. There is no word yet on Andre Johnson’s availability for this week but it is safe to say that the Texans are less dangerous without him. Although the Giants haven’t been all that great on the road lately, I like them to step up their game this week in Houston. The Giants will score points on the weak defense and should be able to slow down the Texans offense just enough to eek out the win.
