The Kansas Chiefs proved that their early season record was no fluke when they held the Indianapolis Colts to under 20 points, and actually gave themselves a chance to win that game. The Colts still covered the spread but the play of the Chiefs offense and defense opened a few eyes indeed.

Kansas City is a Run First offense and rightfully so! Dwayne Bowe needs to remember his job – CATCH THE BALL!! Their passing is currently ranked 27th in the NFL and should improve this week against the league’s 32nd ranked passing defense. Tight End Tony Moeaki has been a revelation in Kansas City giving Matt Cassell at least one reliable receiving option.

Romeo Crenell has the Kansas City defense playing extremely well this season. He is arguably the team’s MVP so far. They are allowing only 14.3 points per game and they surrendered approximately 250 total yards to an Indianapolis team that reaches that goal in the first half of many games. They are currently sixth against the run and are surprisingly 25th versus the pass.

The Houston Texans are a mess at the present time. Nothing that they have done in the past two weeks gives anyone the impression that they are AFC contenders. The offense has been OK and the defense has been miserable.

Houston’s bread and butter has been their ability to score at any time during a game. In Week 5, Houston gained 11 first downs and surrendered six sacks – not exactly a recipe for success! Matt Schaub was held under 200 yards passing and didn’t throw a touchdown. The league’s leading rusher (before last Sunday) Arian Foster was dinged up on his way to 25 yards rushing on the day. The Texans offense is a struggling unit and will likely find it difficult to get going against a defense that stifled the Colts just last week.

It may be unfair to get on the offense when the reason for Houston’s struggles is the defense. They can’t stop anybody, particularly through the air. They currently rank dead last in the NFL against the pass but are a surprising fifth against the run. The Houston defense is allowing an average of 27.2 points and 409 yards of offense per game.

NFL Betting Prediction:

The Kansas City Chiefs are 7-17 S/U in their last 24 games but are 4-1 S/U in their last five. They are just 5-17 S/U in their last 22 games on the road.

Houston is 7-2 S/U in their last nine games and 15-8 S/U in their last 23 home games. However, the Texans are just 2-3-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games at home.

The Texans are struggling and despite a loss last Sunday, the Chiefs are playing some good football. Houston’s fifth ranked run defense should bode well against the NFL’s third ranked rushing offense, but without a pass rush Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss should be able to pick them apart. If the Texans were clicking on offense, they would be my pick but because of their leaky offensive line and the fact that they are struggling to sustain any sort of offensive drive, KC should at least cover on Sunday.

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs + 4 ½
