Both the Cleveland Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars have exceeded expectations this season. A matchup of overachievers takes place on Sunday in what should, surprisingly, be a good game.

The Cleveland Browns are a much different team than the one that went into training camp. Gone from the starting lineup are Jake Delhomme, Sececa Wallace and Jerome Harrison and in are Colt McCoy and Peyton Hillis – thank God!

Cleveland has been playing very well in the last month or so. Need proof? They beat New Orleans and New England in consecutive weeks and then took the Jets to overtime. The offense has been better than expected and the defense has carried the momentum when called upon.

Colt McCoy and the passing game are ranked 29th in the NFL, largely because of the quarterback carousel, the inexperience at pivot and the emergence of a strong running game. When McCoy needs to pass, he has an unspectacular, but solid group of pass catchers, led by veteran Tight End, Ben Watson.

Peyton Hillis is the reason that the Browns are even competitive this season. He and the running game ranked 12th in the NFL overall with an average of 116.11 yards per game. Hillis is 12th in the NFL with 726 yards rushing and second with 9 total touchdowns. Keep in mind that Hillis is not just a runner; he is a very effective receiver out of the backfield.

Cleveland’s defense has been the quintessential “bend, don’t break” unit this season that has only given up 20.22 points per game – good for 10th in the NFL. They rank 23rd versus the pass and 20th versus the run.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are on fire! Ya, I said it. They can thank their offense for their 5-4 record this season – they have become very well balanced and a threat every time that they step onto the field.

We all know about Maurice Jones-Drew. He has the Jags with the 6th best running game in the NFL (134.22 yards per game), but it has been the passing game that has lit up the league in the last few weeks. They are now 27th in the NFL after being at or near the bottom all season long. Maybe David Gerrard finally gets it! After all, he has thrown for 943 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one interception in his last four games! I can’t believe that I am saying this but Gerrard looks like a legitimate NFL quarterback.

The defense is barely worth mentioning. They rank 29th versus the pass and 22nd versus the run and are the 28th in scoring defense, allowing 27.78 points per game.

Betting Prediction:

The Cleveland Browns are an unflattering 8-17 SU in their last 25 games and 3-12 SU in their last 15 road games. However, Cleveland is 4-2 SU and ATS in their last six meetings with Jacksonville.

Jacksonville is 7-14 ATS in their last 21 games but is 4-2 SU in their last six. The Jags are 8-4 SU in their last 12 at home but are 6-15 ATS in their last 21 on home turf. Jacksonville is just 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games as home favorites.

The Jaguars have impressed but something tells me that the clock has struck midnight for this team. Cleveland has played everybody tough in the last month and deserves yet another win. Cleveland should win this game – they are simply the better all around team.

Betting Pick: Cleveland Browns +1
