The New England Patriots proved to be the best in the AFC all season long – controversy aside they are a deserving combatant in this game. It should be an intriguing contest to say the least – even Vegas has been waffling about who they think will win the game!

So who ya got? Let’s take a look.

Patriots

The New England Patriots made it look easy against Indianapolis in the AFC Championship game (a 45-7 win) and look to snap a 10 year Super Bowl drought in Glendale.

The duo of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady make the Pats likely favorites all by themselves. Belichick with Brady as his quarterback has a record of 180-55 – the two are money are will go down as the best coach/QB duo of all time.

Belichick is a master game-planner – he has a knack of being able to take away the opposition’s biggest threat. Spying, deflated balls and good old-fashioned film study are a specialty of Mr. Belichick who will definitely have something up his sleeve for Seattle.

The accolades for Tom Brady don’t seem to stop. Brady is looking to join idol Joe Montana with four Super Bowl rings. He is 20-8 in the postseason and 3-2 in the Super Bowl. He has the NFL record for most postseason starts by a quarterback (28), postseason wins by a QB (20) and most TD passes (49). Translation – he has a habit of showing up on the biggest stage and enters this year’s game in arguably the best form of his career.

Brady will have the biggest receiving weapon in the game at his disposal – Ron Gronkowski could be the difference in Super Bowl 49. After having injury-plagued campaigns in 2012 and 2013, Gronk returned to Pro Bowl form with 82 catches and 12 TDs during the regular season. He has more receiving touchdowns during his first five seasons than any tight end in NFL history (55). He is a matchup nightmare – period!

LeGarrette Blount also figures to play a big part in this game – he ran for 148 yards and 3 TDs on 30 carries against Indianapolis. New England is as well-rounded a team as they have ever been and are peaking at just the right time.

Seahawks

It’s true – it seems as though there was some divine intervention in the NFC Championship game – the Seahawks were supposed to win that game and the powers that be made sure it happened. Seattle’s come-from-behind last-minute, shocking overtime win was one for the books – one that proved that this team, no matter how bad they play is ever out of a game.

The good news for Seattle is that they are here – riding the wave of an incredible win with unwavering belief in themselves. The bad news is that they may have used up every little bit of karma in their closet with their win against Green Bay!

Seattle enters next Sunday all about defense as they did last year. They ranked first in points per game (15.9), first in yards per game (267.1), third in rushing yards per game (81.5) and first in passing yards per game (185.6) – quite a challenge for one of the more dynamic offenses in the game. Seattle did a good job against Green Bay whose offensive prowess is similar to that of New England but will enter the game with a banged up Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas. Despite being dinged up the “D” allowed just 178 yards, two TDs and two interceptions to Aaron Rodgers in the Championship game.

The Seahawks offense was Jekyll and Hyde last week – Marshawn Lynch lit up against the Packers but Russell Wilson had his issues until the fourth quarter of the game. Seattle, the league’s best running team, will likely lean on Lynch again – he had 157 rushing yards on just 25 carries against Green Bay – as dominant a performance as he’s had all season long. He had more than 1,000 yards and 10 TDs for the fourth consecutive season and led the NFL in TDs with 17 – as consistently good a back as there was in the NFL this year.

It will be up to Russell Wilson to shake off a bad game against Green Bay and looking at his numbers against top opposition you have to like his chances. He is 10-0 career vs. Super Bowl winning quarterbacks (3-0 vs. Aaron Rodgers; 2-0 vs. Eli Manning; 2-0 vs.

[dfads params=’groups=63752&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Peyton Manning; 2-0 vs. Drew Brees; 1-0 vs. Tom Brady). He’ll try to make it 11-0 as the Seahawks go against Brady and the Patriots in Glendale.

NFL Super Bowl XLIX Prediction:

The Seattle Seahawks have won eight straight games ahead of the Super Bowl – they proved in the NFC Championship that they can win just about any which way! The old adage “Defense wins Championships” has me swayed in this instance.

NFL Super Bowl XLIX Pick: Seattle Seahawks +1

Seattle got their dud out of the way in the NFC Championship game – they rise to the occasion in Glendale and send Brady to his third straight Super Bowl loss.
