Fresh off a disappointing 2012 campaign, which saw the Lions post a 4-12 record, Detroit started this season with a 34-24 victory over the Minnesota Vikings last weekend. And they did it without receiver Ryan Broyles who has yet to return from a knee injury.

The Lions survived thanks to myriad of offensive weapons including WR Calvin Johnson and RB Reggie Bush, who had 90 rushing yards and 101 receiving yards in his Detroit debut.

Defensively, Detroit look pretty good considering they had to face Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, holding the Minnesota offense to 330 total yards and forcing four turnovers.

Meanwhile, Arizona, who lost 11 of their last 12 games last season, dropped its season opener against the Rams, coming up on the losing end of a 27-24 defeat. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Cardinals headed into the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead, but ran out of gas down the stretch allowing St. Louis to rally from behind.

Quarterback Carson Palmer passed 327 yards and two touchdowns for the first time in a Cardinals uniform, but he also threw an interception and was sacked four times.

The defense was solid though, and played tough against the run but was burned through the air.

Now the Red birds will try to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2005, against a Lions team they beat 38-10 at home last December. However, they may have a difficult time without offensive weapons Larry Fitzgerald and Rashard Mendenhall, who could be sidelined with injuries this weekend.

Matt’s Free Prediction

The Cardinals have won four straight meetings and nine of the past 12 versus the Lions.

I expect this game to be a low-scoring affair, as Arizona battles injuries and Detroit continues to struggle offensively. The Lions have scored just 50 percent of the time when the team is inside the 20 this season.

However, defensively the Cardinals have done fairly well against Matthew Safford, who they picked off three times the last time the two teams met.

Cardinals  24, Lions 21.
