The Chiefs can move one-step closer to a division title by clinching a playoff spot with a win over the visiting Tennessee Titans the day after Christmas.

However, if last week’s 37-17 pounding of Houston was any indication of the resistance that Texans will present, the Chiefs could have their hands full in this one.

Kansas City can expect to get a healthy dose of running back Chris Johnson who plowed through the Texan’s run stoppers for a 130 yards and a touchdown while Kenny Britt (128 receiving yards) was the primary target in a strong performance from Kerry Collins.

The win snapped a Titans six-game losing streak.

Albeit, the offense did fine job, the defense was the story. They held the explosive Texans offense to ten points through the first three quarters. Most impressive, they held the NFL’s leading rusher Arian Foster to a paltry 15 yards on 11 carries and sacked Texans’ QB Matt Schaub four times.

As for Kansas City, they rebounded nicely from an embarrassing loss in San Diego by thumping the Rams 27-13. Two weeks after having an appendectomy, Matt Cassell was back under center handing the ball to RB Jamaal Charles (11 carries, 126 yards), as he led the NFL’s top rushing offense to a total of  210 yards on 42 carries.

The defense, which seems to be peaking at the right time, got a boost picking off rookie QB San Bradford twice while sacking him three times. The young unit has really made strides this season, allowing 20.1 points per game this season after surrendering 26.5 in 2009.

The Chiefs last appeared in a postseason game back in 2006. The Titans will have to face the minions of Arrowhead Stadium, one of the toughest places to play in the NFL and a place where the Chiefs are currently 6-0 and have allowed just over 12 points per game.

Home field will defiantly play a role in the outcome of this one, but not as much as the each teams running game. Both quarterbacks, although not the biggest guns in the league, are capable and have a barrage of weapons at their disposal, namely Charles and Johnson.

So the biggest question will be whose run stoppers can stand up the oppositions rushing attack the best.

The Titans shut down Arian Foster last week, and have the fourth ranked run defense while KC ranks near the bottom at 21.  However, Cassell is the better quarterback and I expect he and Dwayne Bowe will get back on track, and the running game will snatch a win for the Chiefs in this one.
