The AFC West-leading Chiefs and the cellar dweller Broncos meet up for the second time this season with Kansas City looking to avenge its earlier season loss by eliminating Denver from postseason contention when they meet at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

There will no doubt be some bad blood between these two division rivals as they are sure to remember an irate Todd Haley who refused to extend his hand for the customary post game handshake with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels after his team was beaten 49-29 at Mile High.

Since then, the Chiefs have won its last two, beating Arizona 31-13, and Seattle 42-24 last Sunday. Kansas City rolled up a season-best 503 yards against the Seahawks as QB Matt Cassel tied his career high with four touchdown passes. Three of them were to Dwayne Bowe, who extended his streak of at least one TD catch to seven straight games.

Running back Jamaal Charles continued to fuel the NFL‘s best rushing attack (174.3 YPG), finishing the game with 173 yards on 22 carries to top 1,000 yards.

Kansas City’s ability to run the ball well should increase its chances of a successful rematch, as Denver is third worst against the run, allowing an average of 141.6 yards.

As for the Broncos, their victory over the Chiefs was their only win in its last seven games, that includes a two game losing skid after dropping their last outing 36-33 to St. Louis

Amid all the Denver gloom and doom, there is a bright spot, QB Kyle Orton. Orton recently overtook the Chargers’ Phillip Rivers to become the NFL leader in passing yards with 3,370, throwing for 296 yards and a career-best four touchdown passes against Kansas City last month. He tossed eight touchdowns versus one interception in November.

Can Orton lead the Broncos to their first season sweep over the Chiefs since 2007? He will certainly have his chance against a soft KC secondary.

Kansas City is 9-4 against the spread in their last 13, while Denver is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games overall.

Denver is averaging 22.7 points and 367.6 yards while the defense is allowing 29.4 points and 380.6 yards. Meanwhile, Kansas City is averaging 25.9 points and 375.2 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 21 points and 342.9 yards.

While Orton’s numbers are impressive, the rest of the offense is missing, with the running game recently appearing on the back of a milk carton. Yes, it’s that bad when your leading rusher has just 472 yards when Week 13 rolls around.

The Chiefs seem to be peaking at the moment, and with Cassel and Bowe adding to the lethal rushing attack of Charles and Jones, I just don’t seem them losing this one.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Kansas City
