Cleveland realistically needs a win this week in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Indianapolis

The AFC South leaders will look to take a step closer to winning the division when they travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns. Winners of 2 in a row, the Colts bring the best passing offense in the NFL (326.3 yards a game) into Sunday’s game. Led by QB Andrew Luck, the Colts are averaging 31.8 points a game.

The Colts will bring some former Cleveland roots with them on Sunday when KR Josh Cribbs and RB Trent Richardson make their returns to the a place they spent numerous years at. While Cribbs is excited to be playing in front of the Cleveland crowd, Trent Richardson expressed his displeasure for a Browns team that gave up on him and sent him away to Indianapolis.

Richardson promised a big game in front of his former team, but will need to get himself going right away as he has struggled lately rushing for just 54 yards in his last three games.

The Colts are 3-2 S.U. away from Indianapolis and are 4-1 ATS in those 5 contests. They have seen the total go over all 5 times on the road as well.

Cleveland

Controversy is an understatement for the Cleveland quarterback situation. The long anticipated start for Johnny Manziel will have to wait another week as the Browns announced Wednesday Brian Hoyer will get the snaps Sunday. Hoyer was replaced last Sunday following an interception in the 4th quarter. Manziel led the Browns to a touchdown drive in his first series on the field.

The main reasoning behind Hoyer getting the starting job this Sunday was because of where he has led the Browns to at this point. The Browns are currently 7-5 with Hoyer and are in the mix for a playoff spot. The Browns offense has been inconsistent as of late, as they rank 13th overall in pass yards (248.7) and 14th overall in rush yards (113.9).

Brian Hoyer will have to get off to a quick start with the pressure of Johnny Manziel lurking behind him. If Hoyer cannot find an early rhythm, the fans could be calling for Manziel in the first quarter.

At home this season, the Browns are 4-2 S.U. but are scoring just 21.7 points a game. They’ll likely have to surpass that total to keep up with the Colts offense.

NFL Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Colts are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
  • Colts are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games
  • Browns are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games in December.
  • Road team is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.

Free 4* NFL Football Pick: Indianapolis -3.5

While the Browns are a tough team to play inside First Energy Stadium, the Colts have too much fire power on offense. If the Colts get an early lead, the Browns offense and fans may become uneasy with all the questions at the quarterback spot.
