Holding an above .500 record at 8-7, Buffalo is still just playing to for pride as they’ve been eliminated from the playoff race.

Buffalo

While 8 wins is an impressive feat for the Buffalo Bills, with last weeks 26-24 slip up in Oakland, Buffalo was eliminated from playoff contention. This marks the 15th straight season in which Buffalo will not play past week 17.

QB Kyle Orton was given the start in the finale of the 2014 season, which will mark his 12th game started this season. While he has played well, questions remain whether or not he or backup E.J. Manuel will be under center next season.

Coming off a 329 yard, 3 touchdown performance, Kyle Orton will look to finish off his season on a good note. Orton has started 11 of the Bills games this season and has led them to a 6-5 record in those starts. Overall, Orton has thrown for 2842 yards and 17 touchdowns. The Bills offense is scoring just over 3 touchdowns a game with an average of 21.7 points.

While the defense has been the backbone of this team, they really let up in the most important spot last week. Buffalo’s defense forced no turnovers last week and allowed 347 yards of total offense to a weak Oakland attack. Coming into the final game of the season, Buffalo is allowing just 209.9 pass yards per contest (3rd) and 105.8 on the ground (13th).

While it realistically means nothing, Buffalo still would like to finish the season in 2nd place of the AFC East standings. They can accomplish this with a win and Miami lost on Sunday.

New England

While it wasn’t that pretty, Tom Brady led the Patriots to a come from behind 17-16 victory over the New York Jets last week. With the win and a Broncos lost, the Patriots clinched the top spot in the AFC and will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Even with this game not meaning anything, head coach Bill Belichick is keeping his starters in throughout the entire game to keep the preparation levels high heading into the playoffs.

The AFC East champions have dominated opposition at home. Holding a 7-0 record inside Gillette Stadium, the Patriots are scoring 36.4 points a game. With the offense clicking at home, the defense is just as stellar as they allow only 16.7 points against.

QB Tom Brady leads the attack to an average of 265.1 pass yards a game (8th). Brady has thrown for 33 touchdowns to only 9 interceptions so far this season. With a completion percentage of 64.5 percent, Brady has thrown for 4029 yards in total.

While the offense is usually getting most of the attention, the Patriots defense is one of the best in the league. They’ve allowed 20 points or less 8 times.

[dfads params=’groups=63752&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

With that, they are allowing an average of just 19.7 points per contest.

NFL Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Bills are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • Bills are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
  • Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.

With one team playing for pride and trying to cap an over .500 season off, and another team preparing for their playoff run, look for a shootout in this one.

New England 34, Buffalo 20

Tom Brady should have no problem finding Gronk and company down field, while Buffalo and Kyle Orton look to continue their success through the air.
