The visiting St. Louis Rams are coming off their bye week, and they needed it after looking quite miserable in their 1-2 start to the 2014 campaign. The turbocharged Eagles are looking to push the Rams to 1-3.

The Rams undoubtedly have many intriguing pieces on their roster in the wake of the watershed Robert Griffin III draft trade a few years ago. However, when the Rams went out of their way to vouch for QB Sam Bradford before the season only to have him get injured, things unspooled.

As far as the home team is concerned, the Philadelphia Eagles (3-1) are looking to atone for last week’s loss to San Francisco and are looking to do it with an injury-ravaged offensive line.

Some air has been let out of the balloon in the City of Brotherly Love recently. Starting pivot Nick Foles – while looking fantastic last year in head coach Chip Kelly’s hurry-up system – has looked rather pedestrian to date.

Not to mention, Foles isn’t being gifted with much time in the pocket with so many starting lineman out of commission.

Big-ticket RB LeSean McCoy has also been unable to get going early on thanks to the patchwork blocking. Really, Kelly’s high-tempo attack doesn’t look as dangerous this year as it did last season, when it took the league by storm.

St. Louis will start QB Austin Davis, a Southern Miss product that started the year as the third-stringer. Bradford’s torn ACL and an injury to Shaun Hill’s calf means that Davis is the man, which might not be a terrible thing.

Davis looked good in St. Louis’s last game against the Cowboys, throwing for 327 yards and three TDs (with two INTs mixed in). Still, the Rams couldn’t hold on as Dallas grabbed a come-from-behind victory.

The Eagles are currently tied with Dallas for the division lead in the NFC East, and though there are doubts in southern Pennsylvania, they’re still sitting pretty at 3-1. If Philly can find functional blocking, it will once again be in the mix (if not the favorite) to win the division.

Especially with a battered O-line, the Eagles must pray that DE Robert Quinn doesn’t wake up from his slumber. He has zero sacks through three games, but has the quickness to terrorize an opposing OT at any given time. It helps Philly that bookend DE Chris Long is out with injury.

Despite having some names on their defense, the unit hasn’t lived up to the billing for the Rams thus far. The Eagles must capitalize on that, and even with injuries and no WR DeSean Jackson this year, Philly still has the personnel to burn the visitors.

The Eagles need to so in order to secure a win at Lincoln Financial Field.
