NFL Free Pick: Seattle vs. San Diego Betting Lines & Preview

Seahawks vs. Chargers Pick:

NFL Week 2 Regular Season action sees the Seattle Seahawks taking on the San Diego Chargers on Sunday September 14 at Qualcomm Stadium. Cappers Picks provides free NFL handicapping tips all season long.

The defending Champions Seattle head out on the road for the first time this week when they travel to San Diego to take on a team that came up short in Week 1 and will be eager to avenge their tough loss in Arizona.

The Hawks looked typically dominant last week in their beat down of Green Bay but could reasonably get caught looking ahead to their Week 3 Super Bowl rematch with Denver. So what should play out Sunday? Let’s take a look.

Seahawks

What’s not to love about the play of the Seattle Seahawks last week? Marshawn Lynch was up to his typical trick rumbling for 110 yards and two TDs while Percy Harvin added that wrinkle to Seattle’s offense that makes them look awfully tough to defense.

The Hawks’ defense was predictably stellar limiting the high-flying Packers offense – virtually shutting down one of the best offenses in the game.

Seattle should able to click on offense – Russell Wilson looked good last week, his offensive line was terrific and his weapons certainly looked to be in mid-season form.

Although Wilson completed just 19 of 28 passes for 191 yards and two scores, he was in total control as were the rest of his playmakers.

Ditto for the defense that terrorized Aaron Rodgers and company to the tune of three sacks and just 200 yards passing against last week. Nobody shone for Green Bay largely because of the play of Seattle’s D.

Chargers

San Diego returns home after losing in Arizona in their opener. The Chargers were held largely in check by the Cardinals’ defense and now San Diego has the displeasure of facing the best defense the NFL has seen in quite some time.

Philip Rivers was OK last week – 21 for 36 for 238 yards and one TD and 1 Int. Rivers will likely be running for his life this week hoping that the Legion of Boom makes a mistake against his formidable receiving crew. It’s pretty hard to imagine Rivers having himself any sort of quality game despite being at home.

The Chargers need to run the ball – period! But they had issues last week – gaining just 52 yards against Arizona – 52!

That certainly doesn’t bode well as San Diego heads into a showdown with a run defense that knocked Eddie Lacy out and held Green Bay down last week.

San Diego’s defense was OK last week but face a different animal in the Seattle Seahawks. The Chargers did force a couple of turnovers that led to points and will absolutely need more of the same this week.

Stopping Marshawn Lynch is crucial but keeping an eye on the rest of the weapons at the same time is a monumental task to say the least.

Week 2 Betting Trends:

  •  Under is 7-2 in SEA last 9 games overall.
  •  Under is 8-3 in SEA last 11 games in September.
  •  SEA are 36-15-1 ATS in their last 52 games overall.
  •  Over is 12-3-1 in SD last 16 games in Week 2.
  •  SD are 8-3 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  •  Over is 17-8 in SD last 25 games in September.

Week 2 NFL Prediction

By now it should be abundantly obvious who I like in this game – Seattle should run away with this one – literally. Seattle used to be a very vulnerable road team but they are 6-2 in their last eight away from home.

There are zero holes on the Seahawks – you absolutely can’t shut down every aspect of this team. Expect Philip Rivers and the San Diego offense to struggle while the Seahawks continue to employ and efficient but deadly offensive game plan.

Seattle is crazy good – San Diego is just average.
