These two teams have played each other in the preseason the last three years and the Redskins have put up a 3-0 record. Washington beat the Buccaneers 29-24 (2011), 30-3 (2012) and 30-12 (2013).

This is always the toughest week of the preseason to predict because you don’t know what the coach has planned. You have to assume that the starters won’t get any or very little playing time.

Most coaches use this week to evaluate players fighting to make the final roster cut on Saturday. I like to look closely at the depth on each team this week, as often teams with the most depth will prevail.

Last week the Buccaneers jumped out to a 24-0 lead by HT with the starters on the field. Josh McCown looked good while completing 13/16 pass attempts for 112 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.

Part of the reason the Bucs build the lead was because of mistakes by the Bills. Tampa Bay rushed the ball for most of the 2H and ended the game with 99 rushing yards and 1 TD on 38 carries (2.6 YPC).

On defense, TB was able to force three turnovers and they had five sacks, but they also allowed the Bills to gain 353 yards on offense. Buffalo averaged 4.2 YPC, as the TB front seven struggled.

Washington’s defense has been playing relatively well this preseason, as they’ve allowed 14 PPG, but the starting offense has been struggling. Last week Robert Griffin III went 5/8 for 20 yards and 1 INT.

Kirk Cousins went 14/20 for 122 passing yards and 2 TD’s in relief of RGIII and we should Cousins get a lot of snaps this week. Many fans in Washington have been calling for Cousins to start this year.

Alfred Morris (6 Carries for 29 Yards) and Roy Helu (7 Carries for 30 Yards) both looked good last week. It was good to see them get going, but Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson both were held quiet.

Preseason NFL Gambling Trends:

Free NFL Pick: Redskins vs. Buccaneers

Bet on the Washington Redskins +3 (-110)

Tampa looked good with the starters on the field last week, but the Bills outscored Tampa 14-3 in the 2H of the game. If TB stays healthy they could do better than expected this season, but they lack depth.

Washington is in trouble until their starters begin to play up to their ability. However, since this is the last preseason game we should see a lot of the Redskins depth shine, as they’re fighting for their job.

I’ve been impressed with Cousins during the preseason and he’ll do his best to outdo RGIII every time he gets a chance. Cousins will outplay Glennon and the Redskins will win this game SU.
