Thursday Night Football Preview

The Ravens suffered a rare home loss a week ago against the Cincinnati Bengals, who won the division a year ago, while the Steelers took care of business on their home field, taking down the Browns.

For the Ravens, they dominated the headlines for all the wrong reasons early this week after a tape was released showing Ray Rice allegedly assaulting his then-fiancee and current wife back in February.

Rice had been suspended two games by the league for the incident, and the team fully supported him, but the release of the latest video changed everything, and Rice is no longer a member of the team after his contract was terminated and he was suspended indefinitely by the team.

That had to come as a great shock to everyone within the organization, and it’s tough to predict how they will come out on Thursday. The running back situation for the team is up in the air. Bernard Pierce was benched last weekend after an early fumble, and Justin Forsett looked good in his place. Others will be in the mix as well.

With the running game taking time to get going, the Ravens leaned heavily on Joe Flacco, and while his base numbers looked good – 345 yards, one touchdown, one interception – his day was saved by a blown coverage and a bomb completed to Steve Smith late in the contest.

That put the Ravens ahead of the Bengals, but what followed has to be especially concerning for the Ravens.

A.J. Green was allowed to get open down the field, and Andy Dalton hit him for the eventual game-winner on a 77-yard touchdown strike.

As for the Steelers, their opener went right down to the wire as well, but for all the wrong reasons.

The team built up a comfortable 27-3 lead at the break, but allowed the Browns to climb all the way back into it in the second half, tying the game before Shaun Suisham saved the day with a late field goal to put the Steelers on top.

The team’s top offensive performers each looked good, with Ben Roethlisberger throwing for 365 yards and a score with an interception, while Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown each went over 100 yards with a touchdown apiece.

Free Pittsburgh vs Baltimore Pick:

While both franchises may be known for strong defensive play, neither unit is in great shape at the moment. Both quarterbacks will be able to find their wideouts through the air which will make for a long day for both secondaries, and a favorable day for over bettors.
