New England

Just when things were looking bleak the Patriots took care of the the. Undefeated Cincinnati Bengals last week at home.

I am certainly not pronouncing the Patriots as healed but they are tied with Buffalo atop the AFC East and have to like their chances at another division crown based on what we have seen over the first quarter plus of the season. Whoever wins this one will be in the driver’s seat and the Pats generally enjoy playing Buffalo.

This trip will show if anything has changed.

Recent results aside there are still reason to be concerned.

QB Tom Brady looked sharp against Cincinnati but that was because they were a little too basic defensively. Buffalo has the personnel to challenge him and up until last week opponents had been more successful than normal doing so.

Their receivers still leave a lot to be desired and Gronk is not what he used to be.

Buffalo

The Bills took a gamble last week and it paid off.

They benched E.J Manuel in favour of Kyle Orton and got the kind of steady performance they needed to get a huge road win at Detroit. The win guarantees we will see Orton again this week and another win may mean that Manuel’s season is virtually over.

There is definitely talent all over this Buffalo roster and by playing a more mistake free game they are able to let it come through.  Having someone dependable at QB takes some of the pressure off.

With Orton at the helm it is not like the offense exploded…they only scored 17 points against the Lions.

The difference was the patience as the teams seemed to gain confidence over the course of the game in the come from behind victory. Not to be overlooked is the job the defense did against normally explosive Detroit.

This is a top 10 unit that can make big plays and that as much as any is a reason to like the Bills this weekend.

NFL Score prediction:  Buffalo 27 – New England 21

Fred Jackson may be out but they can still run the ball and won’t make the big mistakes.
