Despite all of their troubles, both of these teams are still very much alive in the dreadful NFC South, and with the Falcons going into Green Bay as double-digit underdogs on Monday night, there’s little reason to believe the winner of this game will do anything other than gain some significant ground in the race to lead the NFL’s worst division.

For the Panthers, they had a chance to turn things around on the other side of their bye week in Week 13 against the Minnesota Vikings, but instead they laid a big fat egg, falling to the Vikings by a score of 31-13 after allowing the Vikings to block a pair of punts and return them for touchdowns.

Quarterback Cam Newton completed 18-of-35 passes for 194 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Carolina, which tallied 348 yards to Minnesota’s 210.

As for the Saints, they found the end zone with relative ease their last time out, as quarterback Drew Brees connected on five touchdown passes to five different receivers in a 35-32 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brees threw for 257 yards in the game to halt New Orleans’s three-game losing streak, finishing off a record seventh game with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Running back Mark Ingram ran for 122 yards on 23 carries, and wide receiver Kenny Stills turned his five catches into 162 yards and a score.

These teams met back in Week 9, a game the Saints took down by a score of 28-10. Ingram played a big role in deciding that one, running for 100 yards and two scores.

Brees has thrown for over 300 yards and at least four touchdown passes in three straight home games against the Panthers, compiling a 129.8 passer rating along the way.

He’ll try to do a better job of incorporating tight end Jimmy Graham, who was held without a catch against the Steelers – Graham has a touchdown in six straight games against the Steelers.

Free Carolina vs. New Orleans Pick:

Both of these teams have been major disappointments this season, but the Saints have at least shown some signs of life, while the Panthers have just had no answers for what opponents have thrown at them. Additionally, both sides figure to score some points against defenses that have looked lost.

The Saints are 25-10 ATS in their last 35 home games, while the Panthers are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.

The over is 5-0 in the Panthers’ last five road games, and it is 4-1 in the Saints’ last five home games.

4* Free play: Saints -10.5, Over 49.5
