NFL Free Pick: Kansas City vs. Miami Betting Lines & Preview

NFL Odds: Chiefs vs Dolphins Pick

NFL Week 3 Regular Season action sees the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 21 at Sun Life Stadium. Cappers Picks provides free *NFL*handicapping tips all season long.

The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to get their first win of the 2014-2015 season Sunday when they takes on an already inconsistent Miami Dolphins squad. Both teams will be playing without their starting running backs this week – quarterback play will be front and center as both teams attempt to get on track. Not many are giving last year’s surprise team KC much of a chance in this one – injuries have obviously affected the line in this one!

Chiefs

Nobody will fault the Kansas City Chiefs if they suffer a bit of a hiccup this week. Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Johnson, starting tackle Mike DeVito and Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles and Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry are all likely to miss Sunday’s game – not good if you are a Chiefs fan.

That said this team did hang with the Broncos last week which showed themselves and everyone else that KC is a team that is going to compete – week-in and week-out.

The biggest omission from the lineup this week is Jamaal Charles who IS the offense in KC. Good news comes in the form of Knile Davis who filled in admirably and gained 105 yards and two TDs against Denver. The Chiefs will continue to run the ball Sunday and by all accounts and they should find some success.

Kansas City welcomed Dwayne Bowe back from suspension last week and they were able to take care of the ball – two things that were missing during their Week 1 game. With Alex Smith guiding his conservative offense, the Chiefs may have just enough to get past the Fins. It may all come down to…

The Chiefs defense has its share of injuries as well. But Justin Houston and Tamba Hali still exist as one of the more exciting pass rush combos in the game. Kansas City catches a break this week – Knowshon Moreno will miss the game leaving Ryan Tannehill to be the man – and that plays right into the hands of the Chiefs pass rushers.

Dolphins

The injury to Knowshon Moreno seemed to suck the life out of the Miami Dolphins offense – he put the Fins on his back in Week 1 and almost single-handedly guided them to a win versus New England.

Miami faces the reality of life without Moreno again this week as they try to bounce back from a 29-10 loss to Buffalo.

The Miami offense is definitely in trouble – the trio of Lamar Miller, Damian Williams and Orleans Darkwa scare absolutely nobody. The Fins will likely have to throw the ball to be successful with a so-far unflattering Ryan Tannehill who is averaging just 5 yards per throw.

Mike Wallace has been impressive so far but outside of him, there isn’t much of a threat in the Miami receiving corp.

Defensively the Dolphins were unable to duplicate their impressive, four sack Week 1 performance against Tom Brady and couldn’t generate much against EJ Manuel last week.

Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon are a terrific pass rushing duo – much better than they showed in their Week 2 loss.

With Jamaal Charles out and Dwayne Bowe being KC’s best weapon, the Miami pass rush can focus on getting to Alex Smith and should, in turn have a better game.

NFL Week 3 Betting Trends:

• KC are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games.
• Under is 35-16-1 in KC last 52 games on grass.
• Under is 24-11-1 in KC last 36 vs. AFC.
• Under is 19-7-1 in MIA last 27 vs. AFC.

Week 3 NFL Prediction

At very least this game looks close – 4 1/2 points is too rich. Despite injuries, I like the KC offense better than the Miami offense and I prefer the Chiefs pass rush over Miami’s. Simply put, I have little faith in Miami right now. Watch the Chiefs rally and play their best game of the season despite the absence of some of their best players.

The quarterback edge goes to Kansas City and the battle of the back-up backs also goes to the Chiefs.

NFL Week 3 Betting 4* Play: Chiefs to at least cover the 4 1/2 points
