Dallas

A month ago it seemed like a no brainer that Dallas would make the playoffs but now that positioning is not so secure. Last week they were routed in their game against Philly on Thanksgiving and now they play on Thursday again, on the road, hoping for a better result.  Against the Eagles their defense was nowhere near good enough and it will be tested again by a Chicago team that has strong offensive potential. if Dallas want to make the playoffs they will have to earn on the road as three of their final four are away including at Philly next week.

As the Cowboys were banking wins over the first couple of months of the season they had great balance thanks to the running of DeMarco Murray. Taking the pressure off if Tony Romo and playing some good defense seemed like the right approach because the QB has proven that he struggles when asked  to do too much. As the team has struggled it has been a total effort. It has not been as easy to run and the defense has not held up their end of the bargain.

Chicago

With the Bears playing out the strong these final few games will be an test of coach Marc Trestman’s hold on the team. If he can coax a couple of more wins out of this disappointing group perhaps he deserves a shot to come back next season to get the Bears back to respectability. The troubling thing about this season is that the offense, his specialty, has been just as problematic as the defense. It is one of those things where if he can’t get that right maybe he isn’t cut out to be a head coach in the league.

Despite giving him big bucks and removing any competition Jay Cutler has regressed this season – or maybe that is why he did. Either way the passing offense has just not been there and I think that fact wore on receiver Brandon Marshall, who can be called moody at best. As bad as Cutler has been their passing defense has been worse – they are 29th. They have gotten healthier back there as the season has progressed but they are still missing Charles Tillman, who had a knack for getting the ball

NFL Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 5-0 in Cowboys last 5 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
  • Over is 4-0 in Cowboys last 4 road games.
  • Cowboys are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games.
  • Under is 4-0 in Bears last 4 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.
  • Over is 4-0 in Bears last 4 games in December.
  • Over is 6-0 in Bears last 6 vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

NFL Prediction:  Chicago +3.5

I like the Bears to surprise a Dallas team has to be thinking here we go again a little bit at this point.

NFL Score prediction: Chicago 31 – Dallas 27

If they can slow Murray Cutler vs. Romo is a match they can win. They have nothing to lose so take the home dog.
