Football Odds: Bears vs 49ers

NFL Week 2 Regular Season action sees the Chicago Bears taking on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football September 14 at Levi’s Stadium. Cappers Picks provides free *NFL*handicapping tips all season long.

The Chicago Bears look to record their first win of the young 2014 season this week when they travel to San Francisco for the first ever regular season game at Levi’s Stadium.

While Chicago was humbled in Week 1, losing at home to the lowly Bills, the 49ers looked terrific on both sides of the ball in dispatching the Cowboys – on the road. So what can we expect this week? Let’s take a look.

Bears

It doesn’t matter how well the offense plays for Chicago – their hopes rest on a defense that was horrific last year and didn’t look good in Week 1 despite the rebuilding of this unit during the offseason.

Chicago allowed a whopping 193 yards on the ground in their 23-20 OT loss to the Bills and looked every bit as bad as the unit that surrendered 161 yards rushing per game last year.

The challenge for Chicago this week is to slow another team predicated on the run – San Francisco who was third last year in the NFL in rushing. It looks pretty simple to devise an offensive game plan around the Bears right now – give the ball to the running backs and watch them do all the work!

As bad as the defense was last week for Chicago, the offense had a difficult time converting when they had the chance.

Jay Cutler threw for 347 yards and Matt Forte gained 169 combined yards and the team scored only 20 points. With Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey banged up already the Bears offense looks a tad vulnerable as we head into Week 2.

49ers

San Francisco took their foot off the gas a little bit last week and coasted to an easy win at Dallas.

The 49ers defense, minus a host of playmakers from last year held up relatively well although the Cowboys did gain 127 yards on the ground against them. The defense, which most expected to take a huge step backward without their suspended and injured stars created four turnovers – three interceptions! San Francisco’s secondary will get a few opportunities again Sunday as the Bears unleash their typical aerial attack.

Offensively the 49ers looked OK – they didn’t have to do a whole lot against the Cowboys but when called upon they certainly were efficient and effective. Colin Kaepernick went 16 for 23 for 201 yards and two TDs, Anquan Boldin had 99 yards receiving, Michael Crabtree showed up and Vernon Davis caught two TDs.

San Francisco gained 127 yards on the ground last week and looks primed for a better effort this week.

Offensively, the 49ers have a nice matchup that they should be able to exploit all over the field.

Week 2 Betting Trends:

  •  Over is 12-3 in CHI last 15 road games.
  •  CHI are 2-6 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  •  CHI are 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
  •  SF are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 2.
  •  SF are 28-11-1 ATS in their last 40 games on grass.
  •  Under is 5-2-1 in SF last 8 games in September.

The San Francisco 49ers look like the better team on both sides of the ball ahead of this weekend.

Add in the injury concerns of Alshon Jeffrey and Brandon Marshall and this game looks like a blowout. Seven points looks a little steep but I still like the Niners to cover in front of their home crowd.

The Niners make a statement while the Bears fall to an unexpected 0-2.

NFL Week 2 Betting Prediction: 49ers -7 on Sunday Night Football
