Chiefs

It was always going to be a tough sled for KC in the AFC South with powerhouse Denver and a very tough Chargers team to contend with.

The Chiefs can take some solstice in the fact that they went into San Diego way back in October and beat the Chargers by a score of 23-20.

Things will be a bit different this week though as QB Alex Smith is out with a lacerated spleen and the Chiefs will have to rely on Chase Daniel under center.

Running back Jamaal Charles needs just 21 yards on the ground for a 1,000 yard rushing season and he should eclipse that easily as coach Andy Reid will likely be heavily reliant on the back to carry the load on offense with his starting QB sitting out.

The defense will also have to be on point to keep this one interesting and the Chiefs’ D ranks third in the NFL in points allowed per game at just 18.3.

Chargers

San Diego could prove to be a dark horse in the AFC if they can get this win on the road to get themselves into the post season.

This team has played very well in spurts this season but haven’t really been able to put it all together for long enough stretches.

They’ve had some marquee wins over Seattle and Baltimore and won a thriller 38-35 over San Francisco last week.

The run game has been almost non-existent this year as the Chargers rank 29th in the NFL with less than 85 yards per game on the ground.

Phillip Rivers has been able to offset that though with some strong play and will go over the 4,000 yards passing with just six yards on Sunday.

Week 17 Chargers vs. Chiefs 4* Free Pick

Rivers has also tossed 31 TDs against 16 interceptions and San Diego’s 256.6 yards passing per game is good enough for 9th in the NFL.

Take San Diego to win and get into the post season.

KC is tough at home make no mistake but without Alex Smith in there managing the game I don’t think they can pull this one off and I think Rivers and the Chargers offense will put up too many points for Chase Daniel to keep up with.
