The first quarter of the NFL season was a forgettable one for both the Saints and Bucs as the two sit with matching 1-3 records. This surely comes as a much bigger disappointment for the Saints who were projected to compete for the NFC South division title.

With Atlanta losing last week however and the Carolina Panthers dropping their last two games, the division is still up for grabs and this game carries big implications for the winner.

Saints

The Saints were miserable last week, there’s not really any other way to put it. They traveled to Dallas and were absolutely shelled by the Cowboys by a count of 38-17. It’s not too concerning (yet) that they gave up 38 points to a potent Cowboys offense, but to only muster 17 points is concerning.

Further to that, the Saints had only three points on the board through three quarters of play, and only got their offense in gear in the fourth quarter when it was too little too late.

QB Drew Brees seems out of sync with his receivers this year, and the absence of play maker Darren Sproles is noticeable with this offense right now. Tight End Jimmy Graham has done what he always does in catching TDs but and aging Marques Colston is only managing 46 yards per game receiving and has just one TD. Young receivers like Kenny Stills and Brandin Cooks need to start stepping up in the pass game if this offense is going to get on track.

Buccaneers

Hey look at that, the Bucs won a game! Hard to say they won last week in Pittsburgh when it was more a case of the Steelers throwing the game away late. You do have to hand it to QB Mike Glennon and the Bucs for bouncing back from a horrendous week three loss to the Falcons and traveling to Pittsburgh to squeak out a win.

Glennon fired two TDs, including a five yard strike to Vincent Jackson with just seven seconds left on the clock to seal the victory for Tampa. On defense the Bucs were just “meh”, surrendering nearly 400 total yards of offense, 305 through the air. The Steelers, as mentioned, essentially gift wrapped this one though, taking 13 penalties for 125 yards, which made life a lot easier on the Bucs.

Week 5 Buccaneers vs. Saints 4* Free Pick

The Saints are going to be hungry this week after a pretty embarrassing performance on national TV last week. The Bucs will be feeling good about getting their first win under their belt. This isn’t to say they’ll take the Saints lightly, but Tampa is ripe to get hammered as they did in week three by a division opponent on the road.

Pick the Saints -10 (-110)
