What a great day for an air show it will be on Sunday in the Georgia Dome. A pair of teams that love to throw the ball around will meet up inside the controlled conditions of a dome in a game that features the largest over/under of the week.

Both teams are reeling right now, coming off two straight losses and will need to right the ship in a hurry to keep their playoff hopes in sight.

Bears

The Chicago Bears have been a mystery thus far. We all knew this wouldn’t be the vaunted Bears defense of old, with the departure of future Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher and pass rush specialist Julius Peppers, and it’s shown up large for the Bears this year.

Chicago is allowing 26.2 points per game and the offense has not quite been able to overcome that number to this point.

Having said that, this is still a very potent offense going up against an Atlanta team that is surrendering 28.6 points per game this season so this game really has all the makings of a “last team to score wins”.

The Bears will feel good that they do boast a 2-1 record away from Soldier Field, though they just took their first home loss of the season a week ago against another NFC South team, the Carolina Panthers.

When Chicago has succeeded this year their defense has forced turnovers. They have forced seven fumbles this season and picked off opposing QBs seven times, both statistics are in the top three in the league. If the Bears are going to have a chance to win on Sunday their defense is going to have to go out and get the ball.

Falcons

Where to begin with the Atlanta Falcons? This team stormed out of the gate with a shoot out win over their long time division rival New Orleans Saints. In hindsight that win may not be all that impressive however, as the Saints haven’t shown much in the way of being a contender in the NFC and sport a 2-3 record themselves.

At home the Falcons are lights out and in their first two home games have racked up 37 and 56 points respectively (46.5 points per game).

The comforts of the Georgia Dome will be a welcome sight for the Falcons who dropped two straight road games against the Vikings and Giants.

Wide out and the NFL’s all time return touchdown leader Devin Hester will face his former team for the first time this week and should figure into the game in a big way, just as he did his last time at home when he torched the Buccaneers.

We all know this team can air it out, but with the ball hawk Bears, the Falcons will need to establish what has been a very underwhelming run game early in this one. Steven Jackson has yet to rush for over 55 yards in five games and the Falcons as a team are averaging about 115 yards per game on the ground (of note: 267 of their 577 rush yards came in their two home wins – 133.5 yds/game).

Week 6 Bears vs. Falcons 4* Free Pick

This has the makings of a last team with the ball will win as neither team has been able to do much on the defensive side of the football. I think Atlanta’s offense and home field advantage will overwhelm the Bears this week though and will have enough in the tank to close the game out.

Pick the Falcons -3 (-125)

The Bears will be very reliant on turnovers to get stops but if Atlanta takes care of the ball Chicago is in trouble.
