Not only will Bridgewater have to deal with the absence of the best player on the planet Adrian Peterson, but his team will have to contend with an Atlanta Falcons team that has been hot as a firecracker in two of the first three games this year.

Falcons

When Matt Ryan is on, there are few teams that can beat the Atlanta Falcons. He went 21 for 24 last week for 286 yards and three touchdowns – and he only played about three quarters of the game.

Atlanta gets a crack at an OK Minnesota pass defense – one that is arguably the lone bright spot for the team this year.

That said slowing Julio Jones is a monumental task – he had 161 yards and two TDs last week against Tampa. Roddy White is expected to return from injury and Devin Hester is proving to be a terrific third option for a potent Atlanta passing game.

With the Vikings having to focus on Atlanta’s passing game, the much maligned Falcons running game could get going. Steven Jackson and Antoine Smith combined for 104 yards last week and two TDs. – they could be better this week.

Defensively Atlanta showed a few things last week, terrorizing Tampa’s offense. With Teddy Bridgewater at the helm expect to see Atlanta dial up a few blitzes and to have success shutting down both Minnesota’s running and passing game.

Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings look like a different team without Adrian Peterson – don’t they? Since Peterson’s deactivation, the Vikings running game has averaged just over 56 yards per game – unbelievable really!

Peterson will sit again as will injured Tight End Kyle Rudolph and Matt Cassel – yikes!

Although Bridgewater looked OK against New England, passing for 150 yards on 12-of-20 passing, he will be matched up against a pumped up Atlanta D. that allowed just 217 yards to Tampa last week. Bridgewater could surprise but it is more likely that he struggles in his first NFL start.

Cordarrelle Patterson is the one true playmaker of the Minnesota offense. Getting him the ball is key. But don’t think that the Falcons aren’t aware of this!

Patterson may have a decent game but it will likely come as a result of getting the ball constantly fed to him.

Minnesota’s defense has been OK – they largely held down Tom Brady and company last week – no easy task. But with the weapons that Atlanta has, expect the Vikes to be under siege all game long this week.

The Minnesota defense appears to be no match for the Atlanta offense.

NFL Week 4 Betting Trends

  • Over is 7-3 in MIN last 10 home games
  • Atlanta is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games when playing Minnesota
  • Atlanta is 1-8 SU in its last 9 games on the road
  • The total has gone OVER in 7 of Minnesota’s last 10 games at home
  • Minnesota is 6-13-1 SU in its last 20 games

The Falcons are rolling, particularly on offense. The Vikings on the other hand are struggling mightily on both sides of the ball and will be forced to play without their starting QB and RB this weekend. Simply put this game shouldn’t be close.

NFL Week 4 Betting 4* Play

The Falcons make yet another statement at the expense of a team that looks, on paper, to be one of the least talented teams in the NFL.
