Cincinnati

Last year they had trouble beating the better teams in the league but made the playoffs by beating up on the weaklings.

By following up their loss with a win over Cleveland it looks like it could just be more of the same this season.

This is a chance to prove otherwise with a win on the road against a team that has become interesting in DC.

Last year the Bengals won with a sneaky good defense but after two game they have given up an average of 35.5 points (sadly not the worst in the league).

Last week they made rookie Brandon Weeden look quite good and if they allow fellow rookie Robert Griffin to do the same they will likely lose.  They need to keep their own QB upright this week.

Andy Dalton was sacked 6 times last week.

I like the upset potential for Cincinnati this week.  Washington is still relatively untested and the Bengals proved that they can be gritty – even in their losses last year.

I was bullish on the Bengals to start the season and their season to date may have made this a good buying opportunity.

Washington

The Redskins came back to earth last week losing on the road at St. Louis as a favourite.  It may have taken some air out of the balloon but a split of their first two games was all they really would have expected preseason. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

If this team has turned a corner than they should be excited to defend their own turf in their first home game of the season.

If they falter then maybe they are the same old Skins.

In game 2 Robert Griffin again showed how good he can really be.  This time he showed more of his running skills and he staked the team to a solid lead they just couldn’t hold on to.

After getting up 21-6 they were outscored 25-7 in the loss.  If they are going to compete with the rest of the division they are going to need more complete performances.

They let Sam Bradford and Danny Amendola play too much pitch and catch.

You knew the Redskins would be favoured in their home opener but I think this number is a little too generous.

I made this one a pick’em contest and I am not sure the Skins are ready for an all out brawl like the Bengals are used to.

Their win against New Orleans was impressive but lets face it that team is good but soft.

Spread Pick:  Cincinnati +3
