Arizona Cardinals vs. Atlanta Falcons Preview

The Falcons have won 9 straight road games and while the Cardinals have not been that bad on D their offense has really struggled in their 5-game losing streak. NFL lines have the Falcons as 9-point home favorite with a total of 44.

In their last games the Falcons lost to the New Orleans Saints 31-27 and the Cardinals lost to the Green Bay Packers 31-17.

On the season the Cardinals are 3-5-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 4-5 and the Falcons are 6-3 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 4-5.

Matt Ryan had a big game against the Saints with over 400 passing yards and he has no lack of weapons with the likes of the WR duo of Roddy White and Julio Jones and TE Tony Gonzalez. Things are falling apart for the Cardinals, but they still have a solid pass defense ranked 2nd in the league.

One of the reasons the Falcons lost to the Saints is that RB Michael Turner really struggled with only 15 yards on 13 carries. He faces a pretty weak Arizona run defense, which ranks 24th in the league, but he also did not play well last week against New Orleans, who has also had issues against the run this season.

Arizona will start John Skelton again and in the loss to Green Bay he passed for 306 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Larry Fitzgerald only has 1 100-yard receiving game this year and the Cardinals have to get him more involved. One big issue for Arizona is their offensive line that has allowed the most sacks in the league.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

That is not good since Skelton is a less than mobile QB and the Falcons have a decent pass rush with 21 sacks this season. If Skelton is given time he may have a big game facing a Atlanta pass defense that only ranks 20th in the league.

Skelton may have to do it all on offense, as their rushing offense ranks dead last in the league. Their 2 leading rushers are LaRod Stephens-Howling and Ryan Williams and they have only combined for 348 yards this season. Still, the Cardinals may run the ball facing a weak Atlanta run defense that gave up nearly 150 yards to a Saints’ squad that only ranks 28th in the league in rushing yards per game.

In some betting trends for this NFC game the Cardinals are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.

The Falcons are 12-4-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and they have an Under record of 8-3 in their last 11 home games.

Jason’s Pick: Easy call in this one, as the Cardinals simply have a weak offense and while their D is not bad Ryan and company will light them up and Atlanta will easily win and cover.
