Arizona Cardinals vs. Minnesota Vikings Preview

In a NFC match up this Sunday between a couple of teams that really need a win the Minnesota Vikings (2-5) host the Arizona Cardinals (3-4). NFL lines have the Vikings as big 9-point favorites in this game with a total of 41.

Well, obviously the Randy Moss acquisition did not work for the Vikings, who recently released the WR after only a few games back with them. He was brought on board to help Brett Favre and a passing offense that has looked nothing like it did last season.

Favre has 11 INT’s this season and only 7 TD and last year’s leading WR Sidney Rice has not played a down this season and even though he was recently was taken off the physically unable to perform list he will not play in this game. Minnesota may get back on track against a Cardinals team that is also struggling.

The Cardinals have lost 2 in a row and they are only 1-3 on the road this season. QB Derek Anderson will get the start in this game after coming off the bench last week and almost leading Arizona to a comeback. He will need to jump-start a Cardinals’ offense that ranks 25thin rushing yards per game and 30th in passing yards per game. On top of their offensive struggles Arizona does not rank in the top 20 in the league in pass or run defense.

In their last games the Cardinals lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 38-35 and the Vikings lost to the New England Patriots 28-18.

These teams have not been good one to beat on this season, as each is 2-5 ATS. Even though the Vikings do not have a good ATS record this season they are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 home games and Arizona is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games. Football betting

Favre is banged up with a broken foot, 8 stitches in his chin, and elbow tendonitis, but he actually had a decent game in the loss to New England passing for 259 yards with 0 TD and 1 INT. To add insult to injury Favre’s main target of WR Percy Harvin has a high ankle sprain and is questionable for this game. At least Favre will be facing a suspect Arizona secondary that gave up 253 passing yards last week.

One bright spot for the Vikings this season has been the play of RB Adrian Peterson, who has the most rushing yards in the league. Look for him to stay as the leading rusher since he will be facing a terrible Cardinals’ run defense that ranks 29th in the league and last week gave up 154 rushing yards to Tampa Bay, who have had major issues running the ball this season.

Arizona QB Derek Anderson passed for 234 yards last week and almost brought the Cardinals back, but he had a key INT late in the game. He did throw his first TD of the season, but it is not good that Arizona is going back to him to give them a spark and he only has 1 TD and 5 INT on the season. He has a legit WR corps in Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston, who is banged up but should play in this game. He will likely not get much help from featured back Beanie Wells, who only had 50 rushing yards last week and for the season is only averaging 3.4 yards per carry.

Minnesota has been average this season on defense ranking 13th in pass defense and 14th in run defense. They have faced  2 high powered offenses in the last 2 weeks giving up 28 points in each game, but will not give up near than many this Sunday against an Arizona offense that is the 2nd worst in the league only averaging 284.3 yards per game.

In the Vikings’ last 4 games they have faced teams that are some of the best in the league in the Jets, Packers, and Patriots and all those games were pretty close. They will get some relief in this game facing Arizona and they will kill the Cardinals in this game behind a HUGE game from Adrian Peterson. Look for a blowout this Sunday in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, as the Vikings will easily win this game and cover the spread,

Pick: Vikings -9
