49ers vs. Seahawks Week 2 NFL Betting

We’re picking the Seattle Seahawks to cover the spread this week over the San Francisco 49ers in week 2 betting action from Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington

Week Two NFL Action – San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks

Two teams who really struggled offensively the first time out of the box will get together on Sunday, as the San Francisco 49ers (0-1 SU & ATS) travel tot he Pacific Northwest to face the Seattle Seahawks (0-1 SU & ATS) in an NFC West contest that is set to get underway at 4:05 PM ET at Qwest Field (artificial turf) in Seattle.

Sunday, September 14
BetUS NFL Betting Odds: SEATTLE -7, Total 38

NOTABLE STAT: San Francisco had 23 minutes possession time against Arizona in season opener
KEY NFL FOOTBALL BETTING TREND: Niners are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games

In the BetUS NFL football betting odds, the Seahawks are listed as a seven-point favorite, with a posted total of 38 points.

Here are some NFL betting trends as they relate to this matchup (reflecting numbers going into the 2008 season):

* SF has covered three of its last 12 games
* SF has lost 12 of its last 15 games SU
* SF has played four of its last five games UNDER the total
* SF has lost six of its last seven road games SU
* SF has covered one of its last seven road games
* SEA has covered two of its last six games
* SEA has lost four of its last six games SU
* SEA has played four of its last five games OVER the total
* SEA has covered its last six home games
* SEA has won its last six home games SU

Also…

* SEA has covered six of the last nine meetings
* SEA has won eight of the last ten meetings SU
* SEA has won four of the last five meetings SU
* Six of the last nine meetings at Seattle have gone OVER the total

Seattle dropped a 34-10 decision in Buffalo last week, and they are in pretty bad shape when it comes to throwing the ball, as there are three wide receivers down with injury, and we can’t make believe there aren’t concerns, as Matt Hasselbeck was sacked five times and Seattle was limited to just 255 total yards.

But the Seahawks, often a weak sister on the road, have a tendency to transform themselves into monsters at home, covering their last six and 19 of their last 28 at Qwest Field. Let’s not discount something very important here, which is that even though it is an outdoor location, Qwest is perhaps the loudest of all NFL venues, and in Mike Martz’s offense, which requires a lot of precision routes and reads by the quarterback, any confusion can send this team into a tailspin.

Last week, San Francisco did manage to get 96 rushing yards out of Frank Gore, and J.T. O’Sullivan was 14 of 20 (70%) in his Niner debut. But there were only 13 first downs, 23 minutes of possession and one touchdown produced. San Francisco’s defense will continue to spend a lot of time on the field.

The Niners, who got bad news this past week when Alex Smith was seemingly lost for the season, have essentially the same personnel as last season, when they were embarrassed by a combined 47-3 score by the ‘Hawks, who outgained them by margins of 187 and 207 yards, racking up a remarkable first down advantage of 44 to 15! Is this where they start closing the gap? Hardly. Seattle has suffered emasculating road losses in the past, only to come back and show some effort before their fans in the Pacific Northwest.

We’re looking for that again. Lay the points with the Seahawks, the seven-point favorite in the BetUS NFL betting odds.

JAY’S PLAY: SEATTLE -7 ***
