The following is a closer look at the Top 5 contenders to win the AFC along with the betting odds for all 16 teams as provided by BetOnline.

New England Patriots – Odd to win the AFC +400

The biggest story with the Super Bowl Champs this offseason has been quarterback Tom Brady’s pending four-game suspension by the NFL.

Regardless of what happens with his appeal, you would have to think that New England is still pretty much a lock to win another AFC East title given its complete dominance of this division with head coach Bill Belichick at the helm.

Getting back to the Super Bowl is never an easy proposition especially in light of the competition that is currently standing in the Patriots way.

Indianapolis Colts – Odds to win the AFC +400

Many sports bettors are jumping on the Colts’ bandwagon as the team to beat in the AFC this season.

In the first three seasons with Andrew Luck as their starting quarterback they have won 11 games each time only to falter early in the playoffs.

You would have to think that one or two more victories this season would be enough to give Indianapolis that coveted home field advantage which could be the final piece of the puzzle to taking that next step.

I am buying-in that there will be a changing of the guard this season with Luck leading the way.

Denver Broncos – Odds to win the AFC +500

John Elway wrote the perfect script with a Super Bowl title to close-out his Hall of Fame career and Denver quarterback Peyton Manning may be looking to do the same thing as his future Hall of Fame career continues to wind down.

The Broncos are clearly the best team in the AFC West and they should be right in the mix as one of the top two teams come playoff time, but look for the student to school the teacher with Manning going down in another disappointing defeat in the AFC title game.

Baltimore Ravens – Odds to win the AFC +1000

The Ravens have made the playoffs in six of seven seasons under head coach John Harbaugh and there is no real reason to think that they will not get back to the postseason in 2015.

The problem with picking Baltimore to win the AFC is the stiff competition it has to face in its own division.

Whichever team wins the AFC North should be able to make things interesting for the top three contenders in the conference, but getting to the Super Bowl on the road would be a very tall task.

Pittsburgh Steelers – Odds to win the AFC +1200

Much like the Ravens, Pittsburgh is usually in the mix come playoff time. It was able to rebound from back-to-back 8-8 seasons with 12 wins last season, but I do not see the Steelers enjoying that kind of success this year.

It could be Baltimore’s turn to take the division title, which would relegate the Steelers to trying and win the AFC as a Wildcard team.
